Yes agreed - perhaps "need" was the wrong word.....  It just they advertise the features without necessarily making it clear they need a subscription - I guess "Home Shield" being the culprit.

The basic home shield is free, you would only need to subscribe if you were in need of the advanced features, which I am not so all good.

Hi @Ian06, I have had the "inside out" work done by Openreach but I am now waiting on them to do a small dig from the pit to my house, about 1.5 metres, so they can put some ducting in.

With regard to the router, not bought anything yet and I may not get the one I linked to as I have gone down the rabbit hole of Ubiquiti devices... I will make a final decision once the full fibre is fully operational.

I don't think you would regret going the Ubiquiti route however it's probably worth seeing what you have can do with the full fibre connection once installed.

Once full fibre is installed I am going to have to get a new router, the one I currently use will just not be good enough and although they say FF will work on the Hub 2 that is not a long term solution for me because of it's limited options... I mean I replaced the Hub 2 with my current router because of that very reason.

Now Ubiquiti would give me all the options/configurations I need and then some, I would also be able to fit it into my eco system nicely.

The only thing that is making me squeak a bit though is the price 😁

Quick update on this...

Much as I really like the Ubiquity stuff I just simply could not justify spending that amount of money.

I have gone form the TP-Link router I linked to in the first post, still costs a fair bit but nowhere near as much as a ubiquity set up.

@DerekW  Thanks for the update...   I would be interested to know how you get on with the TP-Link router.  I seem to remember thinking it was expensive by TP-Link standards, but was tempted to try one as I keep having wifi connection problems with the Synology router I have.

@Ian06 It certainly is one of TP-Links more expensive options for sure.

My current set up is all TP-Link stuff so that did influence my end decision to go with this router.

It is worth noting I do have a TP-Link mesh set up so the new router will just slot into the eco system with minimal, if any, problems.

I have a Synology WiFi router and two TP-Link WAPs connected via ethernet (but not actually a mesh per se).... however some devices seem to loose connection and won't readily reconnect, I am pretty sure it's the Synology router and how it deals with WiFi connections/encryption.  I am left with the feeling there are bugs in the Synology WiFi implementation, but it's very difficult for me to pin it down to anything specific... never had any problems previously using all TP-Link set-up.

However I am reluctant to fork out for a new router and then find it doesn't help!!

Full fibre went live this afternoon, set up of the new TP-Link router was super easy.

Unplugged everything from the old set up and plugged it into the new router, turned it on, logged into the web interface and it walked me through the set up process.

Just input my PlusNet credentials, set all the WiFi networks to have the same name and password combo as before and everything just connected back up seamlessly, including all the CCTV cameras.

From start to finish took about 10min max

No dropouts or disconnections and everything is running buttery smooth.
