New FTTP with Unifi Security Gateway

Hi,

I upgraded to FTTP 500 today.  The ONT was plugged into my USG but I was only getting just over 100Mb.

I connected my PC to the ONT and I was getting about 480 so it must be configuration within my USG

After some AI conversations it mentioned VLAN ID.  I set this to 101 and for about a minute when I did a speed test I got 480Mb, but then my IPV4 address went to 0.0.0.0 and everything stopped working.

I re entered my plusdsl.net password, nothing worked.

Various ONT and Router reboots in between

Removed the entry for VLAN ID and it then came back up, tonight I am getting about 180Mb.

I find the guide seems to state PPOE with your username and password, also various posts about not needing VLAN 101.

Any advice appreciated.

@ian22red For an FTTP connection, there is no VLAN on the router - it should be set to '0' or 'off', as the ONT handles this.

Can't help with speed issue though.

We dont know what model USG you have but this thread has some useful suggestions and might be worth a read through

https://community.ui.com/questions/Unifi-Security-Gateway-3P-throughput-limited-at-100Mbps-while-ISP...

I suggest the first thing to check is that the USG is showing a 1000Mb connection to the ONT and likewise your computer shows a 1000Mb connection to the USG

Re: New FTTP with Unifi Security Gateway

Thanks I tried most of those yesterday and reading the thread I seems as if he just gave up as it wasn't resolved.
The one thing I can't find in the UI is hardware offload

Re: New FTTP with Unifi Security Gateway

What model USG do you have ?

Have you confirmed that the links from the ONT to USG and USG to PC do show as 1000Mb ?

Re: New FTTP with Unifi Security Gateway

Which includes disabling IPS/IDS, yes? Sounds like you'll have a rough time with that enabled.

The USG is declared end of life, isn't it? Perhaps time to consider replacing it with something that has a little more grunt? 🤔

I use a USG with a 600Mbps symmetric FTTP, and it works at full speed (I actually get 680Mbps down 700Mbps up) without IPS/IDS enabled.

With IPS/IDS enabled it can only manage something under 200Mbps - almost exactly what the OP is reporting.

Yes all set to 1gb

In that case it looks suspiciously like you've got IPS/IDS enabled as @bobpullen & @corringham suggest

Re: New FTTP with Unifi Security Gateway

Ok so came home for another go at sorting it.
Checked my cyber settings to be sure. Identification was set to traffic only so decided to disable. USG errored trying to apply the setting, so I restored to a back from last night. Exactly the same config. Retested and now running at about 500mb. No idea what has changed. Seems like a user issue.

Re: New FTTP with Unifi Security Gateway

Further update

I re enabled Intrusion detection and saw the throughput drop off to about 100Mb

Then removed it and saw the throughput increase back to 500Mb.

So may be originally the UI change wasn't pushed correctly in to the USB config???
