My virus scan software detected a vulnerabilty in my plusnet router

Hi,

My virus scan software detected a vulnerabilty in my router on my phone.

It says a possible man-in -the middle attack may have compromised my network by intercepting and viewing TLS/SSL traffic, including web browsing.

It advices not to type any passwords or personal details without using a VPN.

It also says I may be able to fix this by updating my router's firmware.

Please can anyone adviseme where to access a legitimate router update?

Many thanks.

Re: My virus scan software detected a vulnerabilty in my plusnet router

If you sign into your  router (which one?) and go to Troubleshooting>Helpdesk (Hub1) or Technical Log>Information(Hub2), the information is there.

As asked before, what is your AV software? - many of them are, shall we say, economical with the truth, and your initial query suggests that this is merely a scare tactic.

@AngieB4

I think is more important to know which Hub you are currently using, the phone make/model and AV program seeing this issue.

Re: My virus scan software detected a vulnerabilty in my plusnet router

I'm using a Samsung Android A55, the hub is a Hub Two Router and the antivirus software is a paid for AVG Internet security.

Many thanks

Re: My virus scan software detected a vulnerabilty in my plusnet router

@AngieB4 After re-reading your initial post and the additional information provided,  I  suggest you ignore the 'warning' and carry on as normal. AVG is notorious for scare tactics and providing misleading 'advice'.

@Dan_the_Van  - am I fair in my assessment?

Re: My virus scan software detected a vulnerabilty in my plusnet router

Thanks so much for your reassurance but I'm still concerned as we've had various scam emails and unrecognised calls recently since I switched Broadband.

I'd still like to understand how to update my router firmware if you think that would be feasible without messing anything up?

Many thanks.

Re: My virus scan software detected a vulnerabilty in my plusnet router

@jab1

I would say that is a fair assessment.

It depends on what AVG is looking for, maybe not a WPA3 wifi connection to the Hub. This can not be a major issue or we'd see many reports of this error.

For the record the Hub two current Firmware version: v0.10.00.04201-PN updated: 30-Jun-2023

@AngieB4

This is more likely a VPN upsell opportunity.

There is no way to manually update the Hub 2. Firmware updates are automatically applied by the Plusnet management platform as they become applicable.

If you have moved to PLusnet recently and received a new Hub 2, then it will already be up to date.

As asked previously, what is your current firmware version?

@Dan_the_Van thanks for your support. I have Avast (free) on my Windows machine (same company, different name) and get similar 'warnings' , which I totally ignore.

Re: My virus scan software detected a vulnerabilty in my plusnet router

Hi,

thanks very much for your replies.

I think the Driver version of my Realteck wifi adapter is 6001.10.354.0

I'm still not sure if this is refering to my router firmware as unfortunately I didn't understand how to access that info.

Thanks v. much

Re: My virus scan software detected a vulnerabilty in my plusnet router

@AngieB4

Click on http://192.168.1.254  to have access to the Hubs management screens.

You can find the firmware version ->Home -->Status

As previously mentioned, this is unlikely to be the cause you issues as detected by AVG.
