Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

Hi,

I have the Plusnet Hub Two and it reboots itself multiple times per day. Each time it logs "Upgrade and system start TR069" and we lose internet connection for a few minutes. This is a real pain as my wife uses Zoom all day and of course gets booted off.

Plusnet have checked the line several times, and suggested I unplug everything from the Ethernet ports and factory reset. I've done both, but need to plug the Ethernet ports back in as most devices are hardwired. I'm still getting these random reboots though.

Last firmware update says 30th June 2023.

Any ideas please? I didn't get these issues with my old router (which I can't find right now!).

@nickrw73 Welcome to the forums. Can you export the log in .csv format, and post it to this topic - the surrounding information may help others to help you.

Re: Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

@nickrw73 I would suspect this is the system trying (and failing) to update your Hubs firmware, but as I don't use one, I may be wrong.

@Dan_the_Van  @bobpullen  - any ideas?

Re: Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

@nickrw73

Do you know  what device is using IP Address 192.168.1.3, this device is receiving multiple connections from foreign devices on port 80, 443.

21:58:33, 12 Oct. FWL Port Forward Server(192.168.1.3) TCP 443 accepted a new connection from 198.199.111.103
21:56:53, 12 Oct. FWL Port Forward Server(192.168.1.3) TCP 80 accepted a new connection from 83.150.218.8

I also see a OpenVPN connection on port 1194 from 198.235.24.10

21:48:37, 12 Oct. FWL Port Forward Server(192.168.1.3) UDP 1194 accepted a new connection from 185.200.118.73

Is it a DMZ device?

192.168.1.4, any idea what this is?

Have you got anything connected to the WAN port?

You Hub does have the latest firmware

03:33:33, 03 Jul. Booting firmware v0.10.00.04201-PN (Thu Apr 20 16:54:19 2023)

Re: Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

I have a NAS on 192.168.1.3 running VPN/web/others so that's expected.

1.4 is the computer in the lounge, so that's me.

Nothing plugged into the WAN port.

Arrggh it's just rebooted again!

I've just noticed one of my smart plugs 192.168.1.68 is constantly requesting DHCP. I'm trying to identify which one it is now to turn it off. Got nearly 50 devices on the network so it's a bit tricky.

Re: Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

Are you using powerline adapters or wireless access points as multiple device can been seen on each LAN port which is showing as UP.

Edit: or switch

Re: Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

All of the above! One LAN port is connected to a switch, and then to several other switches daisy chained. There is a poweline adapter somewhere on one of these switches. The other LAN port is connected to an old ISP router configured as a 2.4GHz WiFi router only (DHCP and everything else turned off) because the PN router doesn't allow splitting of WiFi frequencies (which I need for smart devices).

I'm just going to kill the whole house power at the consumer unit now to reboot everything and see what happens!

Re: Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

Be interesting after you get everything going again to have the exported event log, to see what caused the last failure.

There is something not correct but it doesn't look like a DSL disconnect issue as I've not found any, some reboot messages which may or not be at your request.

Re: Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

Well I've just rebooted the entire house. I think things are still connecting, but here's the log starts from 14:09. It tends to reboot about 3 times per day, can't put my figure out the trigger though.

Re: Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

I see the reboot

14:09:18, 13 Oct. System start Button press (PowerButton)

From earlier I see

13:20:15, 13 Oct. System restart, reason: TR69

13:21:08, 13 Oct. Upgrade and system start TR069

I believe the above is a two part message NOT the cause of the fault.

upgrade - this is performed every time the hub starts.

system start TR069 - I think this is who requested the start, as to why we need @bobpullen

from your event log in August

16:40:46, 21 Aug. Upgrade and system start from GUI

I have see the same message on my hub.

@MisterW any thoughts on this?

Re: Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

The restart from GUI will be me in my troubleshooting.

It's the multiple:-

System restart, reason: TR69

Upgrade and system start TR069

...that is the real issue. As far as I can tell I'm doing nothing to cause this. I'm usually using two computers at the time (hence I know the connection is dropped), but it might occur when I'm not using anything, but I wouldn't know.

Re: Multiple "Upgrade and system start TR069" per day

Situations like this it would be nice to try another Hub, but you may not be in that position. Any 3rd party modem/router or BT Hub which supports VDSL should work, ISP badged modem/router are less likely as they are locked.
