Moving from 2704N to Hub One

I received a Hub One router as part of my recent broadband renewal.  The existing 2704N works fine.  When I disconnect the 2704N and connect the Hub One the lights first go green, then blue, then it flashes orange and nothing further happens.  I have tried all the basics, including resets and connecting it directly to the incoming phone line port.

@DortonDoug What username is showing on the Hub1?

This may be a bit basic, but just to double check is the cable from the telephone socket going into the grey DSL port on the back of the router? And there’s nothing plugged into the red WAN port?

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

Good point, @Gandalf , although if the OP sets the Hub1, connection-wise, exactly as they had the 2704N, I'm still suspecting a 'username' issue. Smiley

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

A flashing orange light means the router’s not in sync to the line so that would need to be steady before the router tries to authenticate with the username.

Also the username should auto-populate anyway via the hardware management system.

(I’m not in the office tonight to check)

Ah, OK @Gandalf - didn't think of that, should have referred to my 'lights list' before posting. Embarrassed

The username should auto-populate, but we have seen instances where it doesn't. Anyway, as the OP disappeared as soon as they had posted the query, we shall have to wait and see if they return.

Definitely the right cable in the right slot!  (But thanks for the thought.)  And I've tried a second DSL cable.

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

As @Gandalf has pointed out, for some reason, your Hub1 is not authenticating with the management platform. No doubt he, or another Help Team member will investigate tomorrow.

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

When I checked the username on the Hub One it was still showing the default.  I updated it to the one showing on the 2704N, with my password.  No change in the lights.

If it's a data refresh issue, I might try leaving the Hib One plugged in overnight and see what happens.  (We have a limited service due to being copper line dependent and a being a long way from the exchange.)

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

Leaving it plugged in overnight won't hurt, but it might not achieve much. The fact that it was showing the default username suggests to me that it was not properly allocated to your account before leaving the warehouse, so it will probably need manual intervention to properly authenticate.

You were right, John.  Left the router set up all night.  I came down this morning and it was still flashing orange!

Sorry, Doug, but I did warn you. As I said, one of the Help Team should pick this up fairly soon and sort it for you - but they are apparently quite busy over on Twitface, so be patient. Smiley

See above.

If its just the long LED flashing then the Hub One is failing to detect the PlusNet network, to me it suggests the Hub One supplied is defective.

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

This won't be an authentication problem, if the orange light is flashing. For some reason the hub won't be establishing a DSL connection / sync to the exchange. This has got to happen first before it authenticates to Plusnet.

@DortonDoug, I've ordered you a replacement Hub One which you should receive either tomorrow or early next week. Smiley

Let me know how it goes once you've got it.

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

Thanks, Dan.  Only the long LED is flashing orange, with no other LEDs showing.  My guess was the router, given the 2704N works fine.  Felt it was best to check for other options first!
