HG612 on BT Infinity2

Afternoon all, I've ditched the PlusNet Hub One and am using an Asus mesh network. I didn't realise the main router lacks modem so dug out an old HG612, plugged it in and it's been working well.

Spotted the router reports an issue with the modem and/or connection so sourced a 2nd hand HG612 but a later 3B model. Full reset to factory, plug it in and no internet e.g. phone reports "can't provide internet" and Asus Router diags show the modem is the issue.

I'm fairly sure the modem works as I've been able to access the UI. My guess is there's a config option and I've found articles for ADSL, but I think BT Infinity2 is VDLS. A bit of research suggests "In its default state, the HG612 is configured for use with UK VDSL connections - nothing needs to be changed" so I'm at a dead end.

Any suggestions on what to look at next?

Re: HG612 on BT Infinity2

How have you set up the Asus router and have you entered your PN username and password?

Re: HG612 on BT Infinity2

Asus router has been working for over a year. I did note when swapping the modem, the connection method temporarily wasn't set, but yes it did show PPoE and had my username (email) and password retained.

Re: HG612 on BT Infinity2

You confused me when you said you ditched the Hub1 !

So back to basics - does your phone line work ok? Is the line quiet when you dial  option 2?

Does it work when you use the Hub1 ?

Re: HG612 on BT Infinity2

Original HG612 - everything works perfectly

Swap to replacement HG612 - no internet connection

Back to original HG612 - everything works perfectly

Suggests it's the modem, but UI works, lights flash, can patch firmware . . . .

Fix

@JohnFol1 have a look at this thread https://community.plus.net/t5/My-Router/Securing-HG612-modems-in-Bridge-Mode/td-p/1415870

The full settings for bridge ( modem ) mode are there. If you can access the gui then you can check that it really is in bridge mode

Tons of information in that link. It'll take a while to go through it.
Many thanks, much appreciated

Re: HG612 on BT Infinity2

There were 3 subtle differences between the factory reset values and those on the page you referred me to. Newer HG612 now aligned with the settings suggested, removed the "TR069" bit as suggested and it worked 1st time. Many thanks
