Blocked website/ip address/no emails

Hi Im having issues I believe with my plus one router.

I now work from home and have been able to connect to my website and receive emails from the domain etc etc no issues for 16months. now for some strange reason now and again the emails would stop being delivered to my computer... quick reboot of the router etc and all good. this happens say very other day but no big deal just reboot and all ok.

But now the website cannot be connected, the email drop out again, rebooted and all ok.

Here's now the issue.. emails dropped out, website cannot be reached and now its permanent. try reboot no success I can still access the internet to other websites etc but not mine.

Plusnet not got a clue so need help from here if possible.

So what have I done -  I have turned off all the firewalls I have that might stop the connection, that's windows firewall and the router firewall but again no success.

Can anyone throw up any suggestions as at the moment I'm hot spotting my mobile data to get email though my laptop

Re: Blocked website/ip address/no emails

Few questions to begin with...

Who is your web/email host and are you able to share the FTP and/or email server addresses you are using?

Do you have Safeguard/Parental Controls enabled on your account?

Is there any commonality in the IP address you are assigned during the times you're having problems? You can determine your public IP address by visiting a website like this. Worth comparing what it shows when things are working versus what it shows when they're not.

Re: Blocked website/ip address/no emails

Does the issuing of a static IP coincide with the complete inability to collect mail/access the website?

Are you able to try telnetting to the server on port 25 from a command line like this: -

bob@penguin:~$ telnet mail.cheap-taxis.com 25
Trying 91.232.124.70...
Connected to cheap-taxis.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
220-cp4.ukdns.biz ESMTP Exim 4.95 #2 Wed, 27 Jul 2022 22:10:11 +0100
220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited,
220 and/or bulk e-mail.

Might also be worth running a traceroute to that IP address - 91.232.124.70. Whilst I can telnet to the mail server (seen above), a Windows traceroute times out. Regardless, it will at least prove whether or not the traffic is getting past your router: -

>tracert 91.232.124.70

Tracing route to cp4.ukdns.biz [91.232.124.70]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

I'm not convinced this is related to the router at this stage.

Re: Blocked website/ip address/no emails

Heres a thought, could my hosting provider for the website and emails but a block on my home IP address?

Re: Blocked website/ip address/no emails

Yes, it's a possibility.

This is also why rebooting your router may have helped before you were assigned a static IP. A reboot will have potentially resulted in you being assigned a different public IP address that wasn't subject to blocking.

Some of the steps I've suggested may point to, or disprove, this theory.
