There shouldn't be any issues to retain the existing service alongside an FTTP installation, unless there's infrastructure problems, but it looks like the box to disconnect the existing service was ticked upon signup.

There shouldn't be any issues to retain the existing service alongside an FTTP installation
you know that and we know that but it seems Sales aren't convinced!
AFAICS the original order was placed over the phone and the existing service was requested to be retained so the box should not have been ticked ?
A further call to Customer support seems to have elicited the response that its not possible to retain the existing service ??!!!
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

It could have happened by mistake.

I believe tina did look at it and said it was possible to have it alongside vdsl2! Is there any situation where the system could say its not possible ?

If its an u/g installation, I suppose there might be a situation where the existing cable needs to be used a a drawstring to pull the fibre through ducting ? but I wouldn't expect that to be known at time of order...

if its a dig issue, and there's issues, wouldn't it be flagged under complex l2c/kci2 assure

Very likely, but I don't see why that should prevent an initial order being placed without ceasing the existing service ?
Yes, if it was KCI2 assure, the survey MIGHT reveal installation not possible without removal of existing service but that would be down the line from the order being placed...

That is interesting you describe my current situation. My VDSL is ducted and BT Wholesale checker says KCI2 Assure. I have just had a follow up couple of calls from BT one saying it is not possible, 1 line per household and another saying it is possible but we couldn't agree a price. Have been searching deals and it seems possible with AA and IDNet so it seems this is a supplier restriction.

Have been searching deals and it seems possible with AA and IDNet so it seems this is a supplier restriction.
It does appear to be a supplier decision, I can't understand why it would matter leaving the existing service though!
Maybe the new OTS(One touch switch) system isnt very good at handling (or can't handle it as technically its not a 'switch') this situation, so to avoid mistakes, perhaps some suppliers have decided to keep it simple and not to offer the option.

Elsewhere I have asked @Gandalf for a reflection on the "1 line per household" restriction.

Interesting reading. I have decided to wait and see what offers are available in November as my contract will be into the last year so £125 termination fee. If I go with PN it will be tricky to get my number ported to AA probably have to do that first then put in an order for PN.

It seems that a side effect of the "simplification" of One Touch Switching may have made it impossible for Plusnet to fulfil your requirements.
In your position I might be approaching Andrews and Arnold for the FTTP line (as a new install). If anyone can get Openreach to do it, they can.
Keep the TTB line and let it run the contract term, then port the phone number to A&A causing the copper line to cease.
Once the services are rationalised to being all via a single Openreach fibre you can look at further options.

The answer is basically it depends on what or put in, and spare capacity..
mine says
"ONT exists with active service. No spare ports are available. A new ONT may be ordered."
That makes sense because they built one fibre per urpn so if i took another physical ont, it could mean another customer having to wait for spare capacity to be added.
As for the ordering system, some isps can't do two onts on a singular urpn - the manual specialised isps can. Also transferring providers becomes messy because most systems don't ask for the ont serial number to distinguish onts (even more messy with multiport onts)

Yes that is what someone on the AA IRC channel advised but it gets expensive on short 1 month contracts. Need to give it some thought.
