How to get PlusNet Hub2

I'm having to organise upgrading to FullFibre while I'm out of the country so that the Engineer will visit and we get everything set up as soon as we get back to the UK at the end of the month.

I've got an engineer booking set up - well, registered anyway 🙂

The next problem is getting the upgrade to the Hub2 router. I've had to say no to the router as part of requesting the upgrade because I don't want it delivered to an empty house so the questions are..

Can I order the PlusNet Hub2 as a separate item?

How long is it likely to take to arrive?

Re: How to get PlusNet Hub2

@fudoka You can request an installation/appointment date, but it will only become a 'CONFIRMED' date when Openreach advise PN, and they advise you.

The Hub is normally despatched, via  RM24 mail, to arrive 2 to 3 days prior to the confirmed date, and is packaged in such a way that it can be posted through a standard letterbox.

You do realise that someone will need to be in the house when the engineer visits ?

Re: How to get PlusNet Hub2

@fudoka

If you're upgrading with PN then your Hub1 will work with Full Fibre.

When a Hub2 is dispatched by Royal Mail you're sent a tracking number. The package is designed to fit through a standard letterbox.

As already pointed out someone needs to be present for a Full Fibre install as an internal ONT (Optical Network Terminator) needs to be fitted. If you already have a FTTC service I would give serious consideration to delaying the FF install until you get back. If you are present you can speak to the installer about what they plan to do - there is a certain leeway as to where the ONT goes though it must be within one meter of a power source.

That's the idea - we will be back in the UK for the requested date for the engineer - by a couple of days.

If it will fit though a standard letter box there's no problem

Now, how do I get to change my upgrade request to include the new router?

Re: How to get PlusNet Hub2

If you are away from the UK, that could be a bit tricky, as you would need to contact PN Support by phone.  I would leave it until you return - as said previously, a Hub1 will work with FTTP, but will struggle/not function optimally with the higher speeds.

Re: How to get PlusNet Hub2

Thanks - it looks like I'll have to do that as there doesn't seem to be anywhere on the PlusNet web site to order a Hub2 separately.

It's a shame they didn't mention that it would fit through a standard letter box when I booked the upgrade otherwise I would have ordered one and had it ready and waiting for when I get back to the UK (the day before the engineer's) visit.

If I'm wrong about not being able to order via the web site I'd love to see a link ... 🙂

Re: How to get PlusNet Hub2

Here's the follow up.

I contacted PlusNet on their 0330 number from here in Crete (thanks to Viber for their ViberOut UK service) and ordered the Hub2 directly.

The staff were very helpful but warned me that some posties didn't even try to put the package through the letter box.

Despite getting tracking number from PlusNet, the Parcel Force web site never showed any information, Not delivered, not "not found", de nada, nothing. So I rang PlusNet again just to check that it had definitely been sent and got the OK from them and that the tracking they got showed it as delivered. so what Parcel Force were doing God only knows - I tried 2 different browsers (Firefox & Chromium) in their site without a response.

Messaged my neighbour in the UK who found the router in our "deliveries" box by the side porch and has pushed it through the letter box.

Hopefully all is now OK but we'll find out when we get back to the UK on the 26th 🙂

Re: How to get PlusNet Hub2

A few years back my Hub two was sent by Royal Mail, not Parcel Force?

Re: How to get PlusNet Hub2

You have it now, so problem solved, but it would have been delivered by Royal Mail, not Parcelforce - different carrier.

Re: How to get PlusNet Hub2

Whichever Royal Mail/Parcel Force - The tracking number link went to https://www.royalmail.com/track-your-item#/ with Parcel Force written all over it.

Frankly I don't care who was the courier or delivery agent but I am annoyed that the link never showed up any information at all so as a tracking utility it was completely useless. 😞

Yes, I did tell PlusNet that I got absolutely zero response from the tracking but, apparently, it worked OK for them

Re: How to get PlusNet Hub2

IIRC Royal Mail tracked doesnt show the recipent any tracking until the item is delivered. Its not 'proper' tracking its just delivery confirmation. Its possible that the sender can see more tracking but doubtful!

That's RM for you...
