I had to order their product, it's like a mini modem and a base unit.

Worth noting that you don't have to order their voip hardware product. As long as you're competent to configure it, you can use your own voip hardware. The configuration details for most common voip hardware can be found here https://support.aa.net.uk/Category:VoIP_Phones

I went A&A and just got some 'office' phones (Yealink T41S) second hand from eBay and set them up.  A phone is a lot easier than an Analogue Telephone Adapter (eg Grandstream 801) as there's a lot less options.

I stuck to devices A&A supply just to be safe, but it all worked OK

One is running on FTTP, the other is on ADSL to give me the same 'number' in two places.
