However I have been using my own dsl router (ASUS) with my FTTC offering, which also has a WAN port - which I have now configured, although download speed (measured directly from the router not a lan client) isn’t quite what I was expecting. Wanted to check with the plusnet device to see if it was a restriction of the older asus router.

If you have a Hub1 that will work (not as well with higher speeds) as would a Hub2 if you already have one.
If you ordered a new router you can login to your PN Members page and look for the status of the router. You should get an email when it's dispatched with a tracking number.

If you have an Ethernet enabled computer you could set up a PPPoE connection* on it and temporarily connect it direct to the ONT (i.e. no router involved) to perform a speed test.

The old PN router can be returned FOC - https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/returns/
The DSL modem could well fetch a few quid on eBay.

I’ve just had a call with point support and they’ll be sending me a new hub 2 out now.
Cheers

@inabox the DSL-AC68U is a bit long in tooth.
What sort of speed are you getting and what are you expecting ?
Make sure that any QoS options are disabled, they can seriously affect download speed as they are very cpu intensive

@inabox Actually, while the DSL-AC68U is a bit old now it's doesn't look a bad device from the Asus website.
While the wireless isn't the latest it's AC and there seems to be hardware acceleration. I would be expecting the full speed of your connection (on a cable).
For wireless it's anyone's guess but the Hub 2 may not be better.

I have UniFi access points for WiFi, so currently don’t use the router for WiFi, all turned off.
QoS has been turned off too.
I’m getting about 200 down and just under 100 up and am on 900 product so would expect download to be quicker. LAN cable is Cat 5E so it should cope with up to 1G ok. Have also swapped cable a couple of times with no impact.
Might see if I can connect a laptop directly later and see what speed I get on that.

@inabox from what I can see , the AC68U has HW NAT acceleration although I'm not sure if that's with the stock firmware or Asuswrt-merlin ?
Check to make sure that enabled if its available, it will likely make a huge difference. As an example, I run an ER605 (dual core MT7621 based router) running Openwrt on my FF900 connection. With HW NAT it gives 900Mb download on a speed test, disabling HW NAT causes it to max out around 250Mb!.

You certainly would, the fact that you're getting 200 down elimates a cable issue as that would likely limit to 100Mb.
You are testing direct at the router I think you said ? have you tried from a wired LAN client ? and which speed tester are you using ? I find speedtest.net pretty reliable at the higher speeds.
Might see if I can connect a laptop directly later and see what speed I get on that.
Definitely worth a try, just to eliminate any provisioning error, although with an upstream around 100Mb it does look to be provisioned correctly

Done a bit more fiddling….
I use the Merlin firmware and NAT acceleration is on. Speed test being done using an addon called spdMerlin that installs some local scripts. This uses speedtest.net
Plugged in a win 11 laptop and did a speed test on this, getting just under 500 down, so much better than the router.
Looks like I may be in the market for a new router 😆
