To round of this post.
Openreach responded by saying that although FTTC is available to my property due to 'abnomally high demand there are no connections available'. They do also say that Gfast connections are available. I presume that is why when I check on the BT site they offer fibre availability. They go on to mention FTTP. My understanding is that involves a fibre cable being installed at the customers request/expense so more of an option for a business than an average customer.
So the options are stay with Plusnet on the standard broadband and wait for the FTTC list to 'cool down'.
Go to another supplier which offers the Gfast connection. Although I understand that Gfast is something that has not been a spectacular success
Or possibly Virgin who are also offering a fibre service which they say is available. Not sure how they connect to the property.
In terms of cost it would mean around a 50% price increase to move and at the moment I don't think the benefits would justify it?
Anyway, thanks for your all you replies

Keep a watch on FTTC availability. Plusnet have been very flexible in the past in circumstances such as yours, allowing users to contract for ADSL with a provision for a flexible upgrade to FTTC when ports become available. Did your enquiry to BT advise when they anticipate increasing capacity in your cabinet?
A connection to Virgin would involve them brining a new circuit to your property - they do not use BT's infrastructure at all.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Openreach said that they have no current plans to expand the capacity of the cabinet. As you say its a matter of waiting for availability. The same issue will exist with any provider unless they have this Gfast option.

As I understand it, if g.Fast works, then it works!!! The problem is due to the frequencies used by the enhanced DSL signal suffer badly from distance degration so it could only ever cover part of an area where FTTC is available.
I would check BT Retail again is see what speeds are on offer with g.Fast (they should give you an estimate I believe). You could also look around and see what other providers offer
Then it's a simple choice. Wait for a FTTC port to be available (checking daily) or move to a g.Fast provider.
Brian
EDIT : Just remembered you had posted the Checker results previously. This shows you would get an extremely good g.Fast speed.
