Quote from: jelv If you find the downstream attenuation from your router http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php will give you a reasonable estimate of the sort of speed you should expect.
The site suggests 6976 for DSLmax at 40dB attenuation. Its never been that high. Even BT only say the line is good for 4000 tops.

What speed does this page you should be on https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
I guessing it says 1Mb.
If so, at some point you line has synced at about 1152kb/s, it may take 3 days for this to change unless a kindly PN person kicks the system earlier.

Nope, it says 4Mb. My IP profile is 3500 and my router was synched last night at 4700 ish (and had been for the last 50 hours or so).
After I posted last night and right before I went to bed I ran another speed test and the result came back at about 2900 which is much more like what I used to get. My "real world" downstream rate while browsing was about 800 - 900 during the slowdown and 1700 - 2500 later on. Not sure why there was such a big change though in such a short space of time though.
