Re: Static IP no longer available?

In my opinion age doesn't matter. I think you would be good staff, once you see the backend.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

But it's not, plusnet is still using a pretty old system which is probably why BT winding down a lot as it will need replacing soon which is a big infrastructure consideration and why things like static IPs are only being allocated to existing users and no longer new users to minimise users on these.

Since you are an OR engineer you should know how this isn't about OR owning the ips.... This is just troll by now it's a bit silly sadly trying to spread misinformation.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

The thing is, on the Openreach network Static IPs are being allocated to your line. Not accounts.

Totally agree, @hicks12 . Methinks he's been drinking (or something) 😁

Absolutely not and I refute that statement.

My kind regards.

With respect, have you some evidence to support this statement?

It is know that dynamic allocated Public IP Addresses can be a bit sticky these days, with a IP Address pool being used for a specific area/location. However that doesn't mean they are allocated to a specific address, dynamic by name suggests something can change.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

The evidence I see is when switching to another ISP and you have a static IP there's nothing else to see.

My evidence is for the Plusnet staff who can figure out if I'm a troll or not.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

If you were with Zen then I believe you have a static IP Address by default, plusnet used to offer them for a one off fee but sadly no more, if you leave plusnet then your account is closed, it cannot be reopened. Any previously allocated static IP Address is lost.

Which router are you using and does it show a @plusdsl.net account for the broadband user?

What answer does https://whatismyipaddress.com/ give?

What are they then, if not an ISP (Internet Service Provider)?

Nice One Dave!

@jaysamuel

You can argue this one as long as you like - you are TOTALLY wrong!

  • IP address ranges belong to the ISP, not the property, not BT (Openreach or Wholesale) - there are other circuit characteristics which do belong to BT Openreach and are linked to the property, but not the IP address - think of the IP address as being the telephone number for computer network traffic
  • An ISP is a retailer of internet services - thereby Plusnet is an ISP
  • ISPs share the services provided by network infrastructure suppliers - similar to the relationship between Train Operating Companies and Railtrack
  • The IP address associated with your domain name belongs to Zen
  • Plusnet have several static IP address ranges - mine is 84.92.0.0 - so this and yours at Zen have the commonality that the first digit is the same

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@Dan_the_Van I think (and it is hard to tell) that @jaysamuel is an ex-PN customer currently with ZEN.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

I'm afraid you lost track of the conversation.

My Static IP was created with Plusnet.

I left them for a few years to go with VM

I cane back and found they no longer offer Static IPs.

I switched to another provider on the Openreach network and they offered the same IP plus etc gave me.

This is why I think Static IPs are assigned to your household, rather than your account.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@jab1

 Zen was based on the domain name shared and mentioned in @Townman post.

@jaysamuel

all I can suggest is to accept the advice given here as this really is going nowhere, you are likely not going to get the outcome you are looking for.
