Re: Static IP no longer available?

If that was true then anyone moving from Zen or elsewhere with a static IP to Plusnet would mean I'd see those IPs on the Plusnet network... I don't, all the IPs are Plusnet IPs.

What DNS records are pointed at your static IP?

Re: Static IP no longer available?

My IP is wasn't labelled as Zen until Plusnet released it when I switched ISPSs

The fact of the matter is all these networks run on Openreach.

Plusnet staff should know if a household has a static IP using Openreach tools.

If this is true, give them it back.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

FINAL comment IP ranges belong to ISPs - they don't move.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

You are correct. But the ISP is Openreach.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

The ISP is not Openreach - they are merely the infrastructure providers, as in the cables/poles/street boxes.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

No the ISP is Plusnet here, open reach isn't classed as an ISP they provide the infrastructure for ISPs to use.

So Plusnet, BT, Zen, Vodafone etc are all ISPs that use openreach network but their static IPs they offer are from their own which is managed by their own layer on top.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

I'm afraid you don't get my IP puzzle.

You've been a good helper on the forum for many years and I give you kudos.

The infrastructure is a sham.

True - I  have zero idea of what you are on about, but nothing you have said bears any resemblance to the truth.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

We'll leave it at that.

But I must say if a user wants their old IP back, just run a search and find the IP that has been bonded to their home.

Take care.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

The IP is allocated to the ACCOUNT if it is a static.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

Sorry, makes no sense.

The static IP is bonded to your real address. Not your ISP account.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

I've moved three times with plusnet, my static IP Address came with me as it is associated to my account.

If a previous account with a static IP Address is closed the IP Address will be released. plusnet no longer offer a static IP address so you're stuck with a dynamic one so I'd look at a DDNS service.

Maybe read up on PPPoE

Re: Static IP no longer available?

then you would know this isn't true? It isn't how this works at all. It is with your ISP not openreach to be clear.
