Static IP no longer available?

Re: Static IP no longer available?

Hi @Dave I moved house 1 August but haven't changed account.  I've lost my static IP address.  I spoke to CS on Saturday and they did a 'full broadband refresh' and seemed to be aware of the issue generally, but I still have a dynamic IP.

Hi @mistermac

I've fixed it now. Could you reboot your router and re-check?

Re: Static IP no longer available?

I've just switched providers, and I've got a static IP.

The IP is the same one Plusnet gave me over 10 years ago, on another account. So I assume properties have a set IP.

This all could be fixed.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@jaysamuel Which way have you 'just switched'? New (or returning) customers cannot obtain static IPs so I find your assertion a little 'strange', to say the least.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

My apologies. I moved from Plusnet because of the static IP stuff. Another provider that uses Openreach.

When enabling a static IP it's the exact same one Plusnet gave me years ago. These are applied directly to your REAL address.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

I think you are mistaken - IPs belong to the ISP, and are not transferred between them. Who have you moved to?

The IP is applied to your connection, not your 'REAL' address.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

I've moved to Zen.

I noticed this when setting up my RDNS

The IP is the same. When getting a static IP on the Openreach network, it is applied to your house number and postcode. Eternally set.

Users should say their IP was such and such, and they'll get it back.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@jaysamuel

Can you point to a reference for this claim?

IP addresses belong to the retail ISP, not the infrastructure.  Just to an IP address look up, it will advise you who is the address range (sub-net) holder.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

Are you posting from the same IP? If so it's definitely not and has never been a Plusnet IP address.

What does whatismyip.com say?

Re: Static IP no longer available?

If you look at my old Plusnet account, "jsamuel"

You will find the Static IP Plusnet initially gave me.

Look at the rDNS, it is still active.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

Very, very sorry, but you are talking total rubbish. All ISPs have their own blocks of IPs, and those of ZEN and PN  are totally different. Can you post the first three octets of this supposed 'static' IP?

FYI, Zen do issue a static IPV4 address as standard,  but it will be from their own ranges, not those allocated to PN/BT.

@Townman  / @dave  Thanks - I was beginning to doubt my own sanity.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

This IP was initially my IP at Plusnet!
