hotspot/tethering

I recently moved my mobile phone over to Plusnet from Three. I have home broadband with you and I thought it a good idea to have both under the same roof. However, I'm having to trouble with tethering my Samsung tablet with my phone hotspot when I am away from home, which I could do quite easily when I was with Three.

Phone itself has a good, fast 4G internet connection but if I set up a WiFi hotspot I can connect to it OK with my tablet, but it says "connected, no internet connection" so no browsing.

Is there a solution, or do plusnet restrict hotspot/tethering?

PlusNet do allow hotspot tethering as I use it on a laptop and tablet when on holiday

Have you tried to connect something else eg a laptop to your phone to see if that works OK

Something I would try is removing the known networks setting saved passwords on your tablet and reset the PlusNet connection password

Re: hotspot/tethering

@michaeljc51 PlusNet don't restrict tethering.

However, if it's an Android phone, then some phones don't seem to pick up the correct APN type by default to enable tethering.

As described in this https://chromepickup.com/wifi-tethering-on-android-doesnt-work-heres-how-to-solve-it/ , with some phones, adding dun to the APN type will work, others will require the tether_dun_required setting to be made.

Re: hotspot/tethering

Thanks for the info. Can connect to laptop, no trouble. Did what you suggested with tablet, still no joy.

My wife is still with Three and I can connect to her phone's hotspot with no trouble. Don't understand why it's so difficult with Plusnet.

Re: hotspot/tethering

Thanks for the info. I don't use Windows operating system, I use Linux. But this agian seems a load of work just to get something working that I had quite easily with Three.

Might think about going back!!!!

Sorry, are you saying that the laptop works fine when connected to the phone hotspot but the Samsung tablet doesn't ?

For information , i've just tried my Samsung Tab A tablet , connected to the hotspot my phone (Huawei) on PlusNet mobile, and it worked fine.

Did what you suggested with tablet, still no joy.

To be clear, what I suggested needs to be done to the phone (assuming its an Android phone) , not the tablet

Thanks for the info. I don't use Windows operating system, I use Linux.

So do I, ADB is available on Linux too. https://www.fosslinux.com/25170/how-to-install-and-setup-adb-tools-on-linux.htm

Re: hotspot/tethering

Thank you @Anonymous , and @MisterW  for your time and input. It's much appreciated.

However, I think I will look for another provider. As I said previously it seems a lot of work to get what was so easily obtained out of the box on Three.

Thanks again for your input
