Re: Where is PlusNet ‘Help & Support’?

@mystreet1

Thanks! I’d forgotten about Duplicator. I did use it years ago to move a blog I’d set up and tested on my home PC with XAMPP to go live at PN.

My first ISP in the early 90s was enterprise.net in the Isle of Man which was the only one to offer local rate dialup at time. A lovely outfit which was taken over and eventually became part of PN.

@MisterW

Better and better!

The MythicBeast wizard returns:

We are having trouble finding accurate data for the domain ‘ccgi.***.plus.com’.

But adds:

Get in touch with us via email and we will give you all the information you need to transfer your hosting.

Which earns them brownie points so far as I’m concerned!

@markhawkin

I don't use it but Mythic Beasts seems to have the ability to host a Wordpress site.

I think you can do this on the (relatively cheap) webspace they sell rather than buying a Wordpress service from them.

It certainly looks that way to me and I’m going to invest in 100Gb of space so that I can dig around. Also thanks for the recommendation.

Re: Where is PlusNet ‘Help & Support’?

Fix

@TonyN

We are having trouble finding accurate data for the domain ‘ccgi.***.plus.com’.

Yes, I assumed you would use your domain name in the wizard and it would (hopefully?) follow the redirect/forward from the DNS to the PN ccgi space , but maybe that is asking too much of it.

In reality most of the procedure is covered here https://www.mythic-beasts.com/support/hosting/hosted and here https://www.mythic-beasts.com/support/domains/transfer-no-downtime#sec-the-no-downtime-transfer-proc... .

Certainly when I transferred a website for a family member it was pretty simple, ftp everything from the existing host and ftp it to mythic. ISTR that its possible to test the website locally from the Mythic portal before switching DNS to make it live. I cant seem to find the details on the MB site though

Yours is obviously a bit more complicated due to Wordpress

Do let us know who wins - the bees or Openreach?

Re: Where is PlusNet ‘Help & Support’?

@MisterW

Thanks for the prompt. When I put a domain name in instead of the server address MB found it and the option screen for transferring the domain came up fine.

I actually have three blogs at PN, one of which was under development and never went live. So next week I’ll try migrating that one to MB and see what happens before going for the ones that matter. WordPress seems to be a pretty popular option there.

To sum up, I’ve got the message about upgrading to full fibre before doing anything about the landline. After connection has been confirmed I must then transfer the landline number to a digital supplier within 30 days. I can trial it all with the PN router and then see if my TP Link is OK in which case I may need an adaptor for our cordless setup. Will probably do it all in October after a September holiday.

Using MB at least as a backup in case of problems with the stuff at PN is a no-brainer given the very moderate cost involved. And everything I see about them I like so I’ll probably go for full migration of the blogs.

I’ve received marvellous help and support in this thread with you leading the way and others making very helpful contributions. So is it possible to award more than one ‘Fix’? If not, which of your contributions should it be?

@bmc

‘tis no laughing matter! They are in the roof-space just above the most obvious fixing point for an incoming cable and I love them dearly. With luck they will have started their winter slumber by October.

Keep a very careful eye out for any messages from BT, especially when on holiday.

I would not be surprised if they wanted to move you off PSTN before October when their line rental cost increase to double what it was when you took out the contract. See https://www.openreach.com/news/openreach-announces-price-changes-to-encourage-digital-adoption-of-ne...

Re: Where is PlusNet ‘Help & Support’?

@TonyN

To followup on @Baldrick1 post you probably don't have until October to move to Full Fibre. Generally speaking BT probably will move you after a certain number of days if no response received. You need to control the timetable by placing your order for Full Fibre.

I believe once the FF order is accepted you can push the install date back a bit to give you just a little bit more time.
