Phone not ringing

My landline has stopped ringing - it gives two little spurts of a ring tone then just dies. I can call out successfully and if I pick up when I hear the ringing the call is connected without any problems. Any ideas? (I've checked the sockets etc already.)

If you've multiple phones connected, try unplugging some, to see if that helps.

If you've added some lately, you may have gone over the maximum REN allowed

on your line.

Likely to be a case of ring trip , usually caused by a dodgy joint in the external network.

It would be useful if you could establish whether the caller receives normal ring tone, or whether that also stops prematurely.
