Hey Folks!
I play Aska on Steam and usually like to play multiplayer with my friends.
I moved house last week and as part of that joined PlusNet full fiber, I was given a PlusNet Router Two which is the only networking device in use right now (no 3rd party routers, repeaters, AP's etc)
Before the move i had no problems and it all worked flawlessly (ISP vodafone), since the move i cannot connect to the multiplayer servers. Aska doesn't give anything useful as an error 'Unexpected Error'.
I tried many different configurations, DNS, firewall, DMZ, wifi vs wired. Nothing seems to fix it.
Finally a friend of mine suggested trying a VPN, so I signed up for a free Proton account and Bingo! Everything started working perfectly.
What could be causing this, and is this something that PlusNet should sort out their side?
Thanks in advance!

Hi @WolfieThai
Welcome to our community.
It's tricky to identify what could be causing this, are all other connections working ok since the move?

Hi Lesley,
All other devices connect fine and everything can access the Internet fine. I tried RDR2 (online) and was able to connect to the multiplayer servers, I haven't tried any other games (yet).
I do have an Asus ROG GT6 wifi mesh/router, I tried that instead of the plusnet router and I had the same problem. I know plusnet don't support 3rd party hardware so I switched back to the provided one. Just wanted to test it.
Seems the problem is outside my network. I've tried naming my PC in the DMZ, ive tried disabling all firewalls, I was able to connect occasionally (1 in 10+ times) but would disconnect from the server after a while.
I asked Claude AI and it came back with this;
Contact Plusnet support and tell them:
You have multiplayer gaming connection issues
VPN fixes it completely, suggesting ISP-level interference
Ask specifically if they block any gaming ports or apply traffic management to gaming protocols
Request they check if there are any restrictions on your line
The fact that it works "sometimes" without VPN suggests intermittent filtering or throttling rather than a hard block.

Thanks for the extra info @WolfieThai
The team would be able to check these things for you and make sure there's nothing account level causing this.
