Plusnet Full Fibre 300 Speeds?

I have upgraded to Full Fibre 300.  The upload speed seems fine, but the download speed is pretty dire on both wired and wireless.  I am getting under 90 Mbps wired and around 45-50 wireless.  The service was only activated in the last 24 hours.  Does it take time to fully kick in?

Fix

@Bluesplayer

Simple answer, No! it goes at the provisioned speed immediately

I am getting under 90 Mbps wired and around 45-50 wireless.

That sounds like two possible issues

1) re the wired speed, you have a cat5 ( 4 core only )  ethernet cable (or a faulty cable) connected in the circuit . This will limit any speed to 100Mb. All ethernet cables should be cat5e or better.

2) the wireless speed would indicate that you are connected to the 2.4ghz wifi band. Make sure that your wireless device is connected to the 5ghz band

Re: Plusnet Full Fibre 300 Speeds?

@Bluesplayer

Are you using a Hub two?

For the Hub two check the ->Home -->Status page WAN link speed, it should be 1000Mbps.

For the wireless device you might be connecting using the 2.4Ghz band.

Re: Plusnet Full Fibre 300 Speeds?

Wireless is working as intended now.  The tester had connected to the wrong network, an additional network created by NOVA Pods.  So that just leaves the wired side of things.  I shall get some new cabling as the speed does seem to be limited to around 100 Mbps.

Re: Plusnet Full Fibre 300 Speeds?

With the network cable I would start with cable swapping and replugging.

Sometimes that will sort things.

Re: Plusnet Full Fibre 300 Speeds?

I am in the same boat

Full Fibre 300 connected today ( 10th March )

When engineer left I was getting 300-310 to my desktop by WiFi in different room to router

engineer connected new router and cables sent by Plusnet

been checking speeds but this afternoon download suddenly only getting between 75 - 90mbps

upload between 40 - 50mbps

I assumed it would be the 10 day wait but it says NO in above reply

Should i phone in /  only get the wait 10day response.

@kenm it sounds like your device has disconnected from the 5ghz wireless band and reconnected to the 2.4ghz band. Ensure you device is set to prefer 5ghz.

Re: Plusnet Full Fibre 300 Speeds?

Thanks for reply

I was dreading a reply like that I have NO IDEA how to do things like that inside the router.

Everything had gone well engineer managed to get cable thru old ducting, set it all up with new router / cables (plusnet).

He checked with his gadget it was 300 wireless then walked thru house to where desktop computer is it still showed 300 wireless,

he said you have a good wifi signal all over the house, even my wife's donkeys years old ipad was getting 250ish mbps

During the afternoon the router switched off I thought we had had an electric power cut ,but NO

switched router back on manually, all fired up ok Blue light on, now speed has dropped, is that what has caused the problem.

Re: Plusnet Full Fibre 300 Speeds?

I have just done a test using my laptop Hardwired next to router

Down 144mbps

Up      47mbps

My main desktop is (new w11 27inch ) all in one unit and bit to heavy for me to cart about, with router other side of house.

Re: Plusnet Full Fibre 300 Speeds?

@kenm whilst its not unknown for Full fibre to be provisioned on the wrong speeds , its very rare.

So we need to confirm that its not your equipment that's restricting the speeds.

I have just done a test using my laptop Hardwired next to router

What make & model is the laptop ? does it have a built-in network card or is the connection using a usb network card?

What speedtesting site are you using ? try speedtest.net if you arent already

Re: Plusnet Full Fibre 300 Speeds?

just been doing some testing strange results

I have a HP laptop

and a Lenovo all in one desktop

I have done a reset of the router password on both machines

both are next to each other in different part of house to router using wifi

LAPTOP Plusnet speed test x2 result D 250  U 43 / D 240  U 46

When i go into network/internet settings its properties are 5GHz

DESKTOP Plusnet speed test x2  D 51  U46 /  D57  U 43

Network/internet settings its properties are 2.4GHz

Looks like problem with my DESKTOP Wifi        Kenm

Yes, you need to get teh Desktop to use the 5ghz band. The 2.4ghz band will limit the download speed.

Re: Plusnet Full Fibre 300 Speeds?

Assuming its Windows 11 , then there should be an option in the Network Adapter properties to 'Prefer 5ghz'
