As you recently renewed your contract, have you considered asking Plusnet to send you a free Hub 2 for the cost of delivery £9.99. Call the customer options team on 0800 013 2632 during normal business hours. I think the Plusnet Hub 2 is an AC2100 (4x4) router powered by Broadcom dual core 1GHz ARM processor.
imho, one disadvantage of the Hub 2, is the wifi SSID for 2.4 and 5 GHz cannot use different names. From what I've seen posted on forum, the single name for both bands can cause problems for some devices.
fwiw, the TPlink Archer C80 or AX23 may be worth considering at the low budget end of the market for use with Full Fibre 300.
Buy a router from a retailer that has a good 30 days refund policy in case you encounter issues.

I felt I was ready for a router upgrade and bought a tp-link AX1800 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 (Archer AX20) second hand off eBay.
There has been an immediate improvement with the wireless strength and speed but wired download speed remains at 150 mb.
Now I have my VoIP amplified telephone working there is a chance - though slim - I might be able to hear the support staff.
I don't use Twitter.
Wish me luck.

@Eggs - Hiya would you be able to test the speed over ethernet and see what your download speed is. Just make sure nothing is downloading in the background.

Just tested it again with the same result.
Since the upgrade the upload speed doubled to around 50 Mb.
The download speed has remained the same at around 150 Mb.

Thanks for confirming @Eggs
We're not seeing any issues wrong with the line itself and everything is provisioned okay on our supplier's end.
Are there any other devices you can use to test the ethernet connection to rule the PC out as the cause of the issue and what speeds are you seeing over the WiFi side of things?

I had to get Cat8 ethernet cable to get the speed advertised.

@Eggs Don't even think of getting CAT8 cable you will be throwing money away. CAT5e is perfectly capable of gigabit speeds.
Anyone suggesting you need CAT7 or CAT8 hasn't got any idea of the ethernet network specs and performance standards.

Is it possible my PC does not support anything above 150 Mb?

@Eggs That is possible but it won't be related to the ethernet connection speed which is either 100Mbps or gigabit (1000 Mbps). So if you are getting 150Mbps you have the higher speed ethernet link.

I agree with @RealAleMadrid , cat 8 cable is waste of money. Personally, I try to stick with brand name cables from Belkin, Rhino, Kenable, ProSignal etc. I prefer cat5e patch cables for connecting to devices as they are more flexible than more rigid cat6 cables. The ethernet cables that come with Plusnet hub are fine in my experience.
More info about the PC would be helpful. Perhaps it is a software issue? Have you tried turning off antivirus software?
Is it a Dell branded PC using dreaded smartbyte software?
Do you have another PC?
What do you use to perform a wireless speed test and is it connecting to 5 GHz wifi ?
A typical smartphone with 1x1 Wifi-5 (802.11ac) wifi should be able to achieve 200-230 Mbps on 5 GHz wifi.
To eliminate possible issues with speedtesters, perhaps try downloading this 4GB microsoft image
This download maxes out my laptop's wifi. 56 Mbytes/sec according to Windows file explorer on 500mb full fibre (460 Mbps over wifi)

I can only speak from my own experience and in my experience, I got the full speed with the newer cable. There was no need of him to be rude.
