Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

I didn't say he NEEDED to, I just said what I did. In my case it was probably just a faulty ethernet cable and maybe that's what is up with his also. There is really no need to be rude about it.

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

Just made a speedtest on my iPhone and it reads 150 Mbps too.

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

Oh dear, it sounds like something may have gone wrong BT's end or router then.

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

Thanks for doing that @Eggs

We'll need to look at sending out a Qube engineer to look at how things are connected.

I'll drop you a PM shortly with more info

After the 3rd of November I will have a limited presence here as I have moved to a new role

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

Matthew, I seem to be having a similar issue, see https://community.plus.net/t5/Full-Fibre/Full-fibre145-speed/m-p/1924013/highlight/false#M21619 can you have a look at this post and advise.

Thanks

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

The engineer arrived yesterday but failed to resolve the problem.

Since the upgrade has not altered the download speed he seems to think there is a bottleneck somewhere "in the system" which needs resetting. Plusnet insist they are providing me with 300 Mbps but I am still receiving the pre-upgrade speed of 150 Mbps.

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

fwiw, I seem to recall Plusnet are only major ISP which has implemented a download-only rate capping system. (Name of the system or routers they use eludes me for the moment). I speculate it is that system which may be SNAFU for some customers?  I could be wrong of course.

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

So - if your speculation is correct - it could be I am not being supplied with 300 Mbps by Plusnet - even though they say they are?

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

My theory is the screens may be showing Plusnet agents you have 330/50 service, but the backend system (sorry, forgotten the name of it) might be capping your download rate at 150 mbps regardless of whether you have full fibre 300, 500 or 900 ?

That may be why you are seeing 'rate capped' 145 mbps download and 'uncapped' 50 mbps upload on the provisioned 330/50 FTTP service.

I could be completely wrong of course as I do not work for Openreach.  It's also conceivable Openreach have made a mistake and can provide a non-standard 160/50mb FTTP service?

Dare I suggest someone at Plusnet consider temporarily upgrading you to 550/75mb to see if download speed increases and corrects the fault, then revert you back to 330/50mb service?

@bill888 if you're referring to the old 'Plusnet profile' , then 1) it no longer applies except on static IP's & 2) its shown in the member centre as 'Current line speed'  which for @Eggs is showing correctly as 330Mb

There is, of course, no guarantee that one part of OR's systems has the provisioning correct and another doesnt🙄

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

@bill888 @Eggs Ey up, I have check the provision and profile on BTW side and it's set to 300 also. Have you tried running a speed test over ethernet and on another device? Also it's worth rebooting the router again just in case.

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

All those things were tried before the engineer arrived.

The engineer connected his own router to the ONT directly.

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

@Eggs - I see, I think it would be best for the new router to arrive just to eliminate yours, is it just the router you have or any other switches, boosters, powerline adapters ETC ?

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

I do have an internal network.

The ont is in the hall and plugs directly into a cat6 socket.

At the other end - in my living room - my router plugs into the cat6 socket and my PC into the router.

I realise there could be an issue with the cat6 internal network. But I have 2 independent lines both of which have the same exact same result and I have tested both lines and both use cat6 cabling and sockets.

I have recently upgraded my router to a tp-link AX1800 Wi-Fi 6. But again this gives the exact same result as did my old router.

When your hub 2 router arrives I will plug this directly into the ont and my PC directly into the hub 2. If I still get the exact same result - and I am convinced I will - then I think it is pretty ceratin there is "something adrift" elsewhere in the system between Plusnet and the ONT, don't you?

Re: No speed increase with upgrade.

For sure, and use the ethernet cables that comes with the router please just to eliminate your cat6 cables. I'd really like to try another machine too if you have one? or as a compromise a Wi-Fi phone just to see if we're getting bang on 150 still even though we might encounter other troubles over Wi-Fi.

Time after time I've seen daft issues that's thought me to not make any assumptions. After all everything works until it doesn't and it's the one thing we haven't though about that's the problem.
