@Grother

Should also have said if you move the ONT then you can easily see the lights on the unit if there's any sort of problem in the future. If you go down the route of back up power then both the ONT and router are in the same location.

Actually, I was just wondering, could I just connect the new Cat5/6 up to the existing old port as in Pic or is that now totally redundant. It takes an ethernet cable

@Grother That master socket is not used with Full Fibre - at all.

@Grother

If you got yourself an ethernet port faceplate it may be possible to use the old back box.

From memory ethernet ports are wired with the cable coming in from below (plentry of videos online). You also need enough cable to wire the port before it goes on the box. It might be necessary to move the box up a couple of inches for cable access. Cover the existing hole with something like a Knightsbridge Modular Brush Flex Outlet White (Screwfix).

You could use the old copper cable as a "pull rope" to get the ethernet cable up to the study. What I did years ago was to buy a preconnected cable and then cut off one end to get the cable where I wanted before crimping on a new one. With ethernet ports all you need si a cheap "punchdown" tool.

Knew there were better brush covers for cables. Have a look for the following an Amazon for £4.99

Single Gang White Cable Brush Wall Plate Faceplate for Wall-Mounted Face Plate Cable Pass Through
