Re: Full Fibre wifi issues

@hillam27

In the absence of a 'man & van' I'm sure you can do it!

It's easy to log on to your router via your web browser. Just drop https://192.168.1.254/ into the browser. It will likely protest about "Security!", but in this case just bang on through as you are not connecting to anything outside your home.

You should see "Plusnet Hub Two Manager" - Save link for future use.

You can see the hub's wireless status on the Wireless panel. To change the Wi-Fi settings click on the Wireless panel. You will be asked to enter the admin password. This is on the small sticker supplied with your router and also on the little pull out plastic tab at the back of the Hub 2 router.

When logged in you can turn ON/OFF the 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi channels (perhaps not both at the same time!) and remember to SAVE the new settings before exiting the browser page.

Get to make friends with your router!

Re: Full Fibre wifi issues

@hillam27

Perception is everything - "Wifi only works now in room where router is located. Rest of house no WiFi." - exactly how are you determining that?

  • You cannot see the SSID of the router in the rest of the house
  • The connection seems slow
  • Something else

Do you really mean "WiFI" or are you using the term to refer to some other issue?  To be clear, with the same router, changing the uplink connection between the router and the exchange (the broadband service) does not (in itself) make ANY difference to the operation of the WiFi network within your home.

The local WiFi spectrum is a dynamic space, there is every possibility that another WiFi network has changed its characteristic and is interfering with yours.  What we can be certain about is, that the issue, as described, is not related to the change to FTTP.  You might find downloading inSSIDer and examining the local WiFi spectrum helpful.

There is the possibility that a coincidental change elsewhere has happened at the same time, or we have become confused in our attempts to assist you by the misuse of the term "WiFi".  You'd not be the only person who calls the whole of they internet service "The WiFi"!!

Re: Full Fibre wifi issues

@hillam27 The points raised by @Townman are important. You said "Sorry don't understand your IT language. My layman's terms." So we need to be clear if we are even talking about the same things, or in the same way. The "regulars" here have specific words for specific technologies, these may not be at all like what your use is.

So what symptoms have changed and on what devices and where; in your own words? As asked, the speed/service you're paying for would be very useful to know.

And coincidental or even consequential change can't be ruled out. For example a temporary relocation of your router may have caused equipment nearby to reconfigure automatically so that yours, when returned to its original place, now is in conflict.

InSSIDer will provide helpful insights to the possibility of @HPsauce ‘s final point.  WiFi is adaptable to the environment and that environment is not just your WiFi.

Re: Full Fibre wifi issues

Fix
Thanks for everyone's comments and feedback to our home wifi issues. I now have a much clearer understanding of PlusNet and problems that can be encountered. I will see if I can close my post and replies as I wont be monitoring this further now but working on info abd options suggested. If community keeps such feeds for others then that's good.
