Re: Full Fibre physical installation.

this pdf from cerberusnetworks is quite useful as it has the external csp and internal one alongside with best practices on fibre drops too. Whilst for FoD quite alot of it is still useful

The following picture is of an internal CSP attached to the old MS back box. In this case there was a duct all the way to the MS so this was used. If you look closely you'll see the fibre cable coiled behind the ONT.

At the time this install was done (in NI) it was stated these boxes were rarer than hens teeth.

Are you sure you have an internal CSP? Your picture looks like it's just a so-called '1+0 ONT and Casing' which is just an enclosure design to cover and protect the ONT, connections to it and the incoming lead-in fibre. There would still need to be a CSP - the point at which the 'internal' and 'external' fibres are connected - or are you saying in your case this connection has been made inside this enclosure behind the ONT? Any chance of a pic?

@MJN

It's not my install. The pictures are from earier this year from an install in NI.

If I recall corrrectly the original copper cable came in via an underground duct that had been run under the house foundations to the Master Socket. The installer ran the fibre throguh this duct and then used the back box as well as the large box to do the fibre splice (joint). The ONT was then attached to the box with the green pigs tail (fibre) connected to complete the installation.

Re: Full Fibre physical installation.

Thanks bmc. All makes sense. I suppose my comment really is that the presence of that casing (which I don't think is generally available any more as some of the newer ONTs are too deep for them, but there are open shrouds to attach ONTs to backboxes now available) in and of itself doesn't mean there's an internal CSP, but in that particular situation it sounds like an internal splice was performed as per the discussion you linked to.

This is another internal CSP box that's been used recently.

I'm just getting a yellow triangle graphic for some reason but, yeah, internal CSPs do exist. Here's a link to an example (albeit a messy one hence the discussion):

I'll try and embed it too but perhaps the same triangle issue might happen for me:

It will, until the business sorts out an effective procedure to combat the 'Online Safety Bill's' wonky 'safeguards'.

This certainly inspires confidence... thanks for that!

Thanks everyone - seems like it should be OK so will see what happens.

Now the fun part of installing power nearby!

Re: Full Fibre physical installation.

@JayEeeCee

Unless a survey is required it's always been the case you only find out on the day where the ONT will go. A good installer will always try and work with you. You've given the matter some thought so you have an idea on the day as to what happens.

As to the power I would cover that with an extension cable in the first instance and sort a permanent solution afterwards. This ensures no money is wasted if the ONT is not sited where you would prefer it to be.

If you go ahead, do let us know how the install goes.
