Re: Fibre to the Premises - FTTP Trial

Connected today. BT engineer arrived early and luckily, the ducts were fine. Also, I only wanted it brought to the meter cupboard beside the front door so installation went like a breeze.

Re: Fibre to the Premises - FTTP Trial

OllieGBR - check again, I've resent it as it had timed out
vyelland - thanks, Highams Park is now due next month so I'll check your area once it starts going and be in touch.
ekw and jwhosborne - I've seen a couple of similar problems on FTTC, your connections don't seem to be dropping out so I think that at some point the connection dropped and the router/PC cached a BT DNS server. If you try specifying the DNS servers as 212.159.6.9 and 212.159.6.10 hopefully that should fix it. It seems to have for the FTTC customers seeing it.
bc - brilliant! That's got to be one of the quickest installs.

Good results.
Would you be able to post speedtest results for your VDSL, from the same server as your ADSL results were taken? Even a ping test to the BBC would be good enough. I'm interested in the differences in latency.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Fibre to the Premises - FTTP Trial

Pinging bbc.co.uk gives a result of 5ms
Pingtest gives these results;

I was lucky enough that my old IDNET connection, whilst slow, was very stable and ping was usually very good.

Awesome, thanks.
My current ping time is around 21ms to the BBC and around 23ms (with 1ms of jitter) to the Milton Keynes server, through Pingtest.net. Hopefully, that should drop consideranbly with an FTTP service.  Smiley

Hi Dave
I'm having problems that sound similar to Gary with the TG789vn. Connections wifi dropping from some devices but not on others (seemingly regardless of manufacturer or range from the router), router sometimes not issuing DHCP IP address to my Squeezeboxes, and generally things feeling slower than when on the copper!!

readingg and jonnywishbone I'll send you both a Netgear, see if that helps, the setup guide is here:

Hi Dave
Back in October, I reported similar problems with wifi connectivity and the Thomson TG789vn as readingg and jonnywishbone. Unfortunately they're still going on. Wired connectings are fine, but I've tried every combination of wifi settings under the sun on the Thomson with no improvement. After a restart the speed over wifi is fine for a while and then drops to virtually zero. Here's an example pair of results from Speedtest.net before and after a reset of the router:
Date,ConnType,Download,Upload,Latency,ServerName
2010-12-10 23:19,Wifi,4624,14333,172,"Milton Keynes"
2010-12-10 23:08,"reset router"
2010-12-10 23:07,Wifi,444,2,612,"Milton Keynes"
Any chance I can give the Netgear WNR3500 a try?
Many thanks
David

Re: Fibre to the Premises - FTTP Trial

Maneesh, Anne, welcome to Plusnet and welcome to the forum.
I've sent you both an invite ticket out which you can view here:
https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=questions
If you can reply back to the ticket by adding a comment with the answers to the questions at the bottom I'll add you both to the trial. Please note that the earliest appointments are now around 7th January.
