Sounds like your first check should be at your router with a cable connected pc.  Disconnect all other devices. Do a speed test eg speedtest.net or even better Cloudflare at https://speed.cloudflare.com/ 

If there are drop outs over a period that indicates an issue with your connection.  If not the problem will lie with your local network.  Wired connections are best.  Powerline are ok as long as the devices are on the same ring main.  If you are relying on wireless, distance, walls, microwave ovens etc can all cause problems also overlap with other WiFi access points eg from neighbours. Does your equipment use the latest  convention eg Wireless n or better still ac?   You may need better access points or usb dongles

Hi @merlin1 I don't have a pc or MacBook at the moment, could I use an iPad with ethernet adaptor? Aside from a speedtest what else do I need to do, look out for that could indicate the dropout issue?

By the way, haven't changed router settings re smart channel or splitting bands. Any thoughts on that relating to the dropout issue?

Whilst they are cheaper when there’s a sale on a streaming device such as a basic Amazon Fire TV or equivalent will give you all the free catch up services at HD resolution over WiFi for little money. Login to your account and see what product is listed as your service. It may be PN hasn't caught up with the fibre connection and is still on your old product.

Then login to your router and see what it's saying about the connection.

You cannot split 2.5 and 5 on the Hub2 - it's all for one and one for all.

You need to make sure your connection is working at the speed you ordered before looking at WiFi around the house.

Just to update everyone on the installation, I did get the engineer to run the fibre cable down to the new box then around the skirt of the house to the back of the property, around a doorframe and up into the bedroom office. From there coverage is pretty good throughout the whole house. The engineer did however let himself down by drilling the access hole for the cable from the inside outwards. Didn't measure at all. First attempt was drilled into the rear porch canopy void! He then measured after a fashion, again drilling from the inside with such force that a chunk of our newly rendered wall was blown off. I wasn't best pleased. Complained to Openreach and submitted a claim, providing before and after time stamped photos of the outside wall and the bodged filling of the first drilling attempt as evidence. Liability was accepted by their law firm and I've just received compensation against estimates for repair.
