Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

'KCI2' is 'have a look first'

What happens next very much depends on what that 'look' determines.

It can vary from

1 - 'That's OK for a normal installer to do' (ie a little bit of soft digging) - the date holds and is back to a 1-stage.

2 - 'Dig first' - which is two visits on two new dates

3 - 'House first' where they do the house end on the expected date (usually due to thinking 1 above and the normal installer not being able to do it) but then have to come back later to dig the fibre up to the waiting CSP.

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

@mwwagain @bmc thanks for your help.

Just had an update on the order:

“There's been a problem progressing your broadband order.

We'll get some more information on the problem and update this ticket with details as soon as we have them.

[internal note]

Check status in Install Diary and progress.”

is this normal for KCI2 installs? I wasn’t at home but looking at the CCTV an Openreach guy came and looked around for a good 10 minutes. No markings on the road though.

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

Just an update, OpenReach engineer came today and tried to find a duct - couldn’t find one so will dig and insert a new duct. Markings made on the pavement.

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

Thank you for updating us on the progress @NC23.

Did they give you a time frame for when the work will be completed by?

@NC23

Did they make any marks on the driveway?

If they dig on you property they need your permission which gives you the chance to discuss the location of the CSP.

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

Although even if you do that, the guys digging on the day may have a different / better suggestion.

I had a dig signed off from KCI2 for 'cannot find the inward duct' but on the day they managed to follow it a bit closer* and went a completely different route

* - well thought they had.  It was actually electricity, but having dug that far it was then far simpler to finish their 'plan B'

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

@Chris_S They said by 1st April. Hoping they would have come today so I would have been at home, but it is what it is.

@bmc They went around the front of the driveway, not sure why they did that tbh.

@mwwagain sorry I meant OR said they will dig and insert a new duct, not myself.

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

This has now been pushed back to 28th April for Openreach to complete the external work. With an activation date of second week in May fingers crossed!

I took that meaning, but see how it might be seen the other way.

I meant that the OR dig team on the day might have different ideas to the marked paint from the survey.

They have a greater interest in minimising the amount of digging and will have another go at finding at least some of the duct route.

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

Well I had two visits so to speak

On April 14th an Openreach van came and sat outside for about 30 mins and left (did nothing)

Today on the 21st had two non-Openreach vans visit at 3pm, they said they couldn’t do the dig today (not sure why they came in the first place!) they even were talking to themselves saying if they can do a overhead connection from a neighbours house….even though the survey said there needs to be a duct inserted…in the end they did say they would have to dig but not doing it today.

Does it normally take this long to dig a 6m duct - especially after 2 visits? @Chris_S @bmc @mwwagain
My mum was in both times so lucky today she was there today to answer questions.

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

When it comes to Openreach  things are not always straight forward, it took them 5 months for my FTTP install, first they hadn't any ducting so I had to wait a couple of months of them to get more in.

Then even though I had signed and agreed to the route to go to the front of the property, when the digging team came they went to the back, when I asked them why I was told they could only get a permit to go to the back the council wouldn't let them dig and block of the front even though they had done so for two other properties in the street.

Then they said they needed more ducting so delayed again but it turned out they didn't need any more, a situation of one department not knowing what the other has done or doing, eventually it was sorted out but like i said took 5 months from start to finish and not the way it was originally planned.

All I can say is be prepared for anything.

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

Thanks for your input.

Just annoyed that had 2 visits since the survey with nothing actually being done.
14th - OpenReach van parked up for 30 mins then left, came at around 1pm.

21st - Two guys came. Knocked on the door and tried to suggest other routes other than the marked route on the ground. Then sat in their van for 30+ minutes and left with no digging being done. Not Openreach marked so looked like they were outsourced, seemed like they couldn’t be bothered to dig, they came at 3pm.

Bit of a farce really.

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

Well the dig team came at 9.45am today so looks like we are moving forward now! They are OpenReach as well, not an outsourced team.

Re: FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions

Duct installed, looks like a red/white tube. Finished at around 2pm today.
