Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

I've had a similar message too. Could it really have just been down to using the wrong Speedtest...?
Like many of you I don't think I will be paying extra when the 80/20 package goes live as, although I only live about 0.25/0.50 miles from the cabinet the max line speed is 59.72mbps. Although the upload speeds have been stable at just over 10mbps, for the likely extra cost I would be wanting to see @70 download and 15 upload...
Anyway, at least the issue seems to have been resolved so well done PN.

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

The biggest question for me now is that on the 40/2 profile I wasn't getting the 38mb down (I got 32mb). On the 80/20 profile I get 40 down. How would they charge someone extra for getting what they should get on a previous profile when I now know the line is capable of getting to 40 down max, I would expect that if I revereted back to the 40/2 profile I got the maximum 38mb down as I know my line is capable of 40 now.
Wouldn't mind the extra upload speed though

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

Looks to me like Plusnet should give higher priority to launching 40/10 than 80/20!

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

At the moment we're pretty much accepting anybody onto the trial who has an estimate above 15Mbps. The Wholesale Availability Checker is capping downstream estimates at 40Mbps until 80/20 is officially launch. When this cap is lifted we will be able to provide customers a fairly reliable speed estimate before the point of sale.
People are assuming we're going to charge more for 80/20. Whilst I'm not ruling that out at this stage, it might not necessarily end up being the case.

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

Plusnet Trial team,
I've been on the 80/20 trial for around a week now and am experiencing very unstable line speeds as you can view from the URL below.
Prior to this my up / down speeds were very stable 1.6 / 35...........Question #53788215 refers.
Can you confirm if there is anymore you can do / or is this as good as it gets ?
Thanks - David.

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

For those who were getting reliable/consistent speeds prior to the trial but have seen variation since, I'd be interested to know whether:

  • You're connecting wirelessly, and

  • If you swapped the Netgear router out for the Zyxel?

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

Bob my speeds are very inconsistent since week 2 of the trial. Before that they were very solid. I'm am using a wired connection and the supplied Zyxel router.

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

Hi Bob,
I am on a wired connection and using the ZyXel trial router.  Was also getting solid reliable speeds of 37 Mbit + prior to the trial with the Netgear router

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

Whilst it's supposed to be better I was wondering if it was the wireless on the Zyxel that was causing the variation (I've had a few problems since swapping it in last weekend). As you guys are wired, it wouldn't do any harm to swap the Netgear back in anyway so we can rule out the equipment change as a potential cause of the fluctuating/reduced speeds.

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

@Bob I'm afraid all I have is the ZyXEL 😞

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

Bob,
In reply to your question
All my speedtests are from a directly connected desktop PC
..and no, still using the Plusnet supplied Netgear router and not the Zyxel?
Don't you agree it's odd that the fluctuation for most folks seems to be on the download speeds with upload being increased and remaining stable ?

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

I swapped the Zyxel out on the first day for 2 reasons, the download speeds were shocking, to a point where it was unusable and the firewall that has potential holes in it.
I'm on a twenty quid Buffalo WHR-G300n and it's rock solid 74 down, 17 up. I know I should have either the Netgear or the Zyxel but if it ain't broke and all that.
All hard wired BTW.
Gerry.

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

You're free to use what router you want Gerry. I have both the Zyxel and the Netgear and aside from Wireless connectivity, I've not noticed much difference. The download speed on the Wired devices is the same regardless of the router I use (it's twice as fast as it was when I was on 40/10).
Looks like we can rule the Zyxel out as the cause then.
