Re: 1/4 speed

@Huntleyroe

It is important the WiFi connection is disconnected or disabled on your laptop for the speedtest when performing a wired test.

Can you confirm if the laptop has an onboard LAN interface or are you using a USB dongle, if yes is it a USB 2 or 3 device.

This powershell command (Windows key +R, type powershell, hit enter) will reveal the adapter hardware you are using and the link speed.

Get-NetAdapter | select InterfaceDescription, LinkSpeed

Here is an example output

PS C:\> Get-NetAdapter | select InterfaceDescription, LinkSpeed
InterfaceDescription                  LinkSpeed
--------------------                  ---------
Realtek PCIe 2.5GbE Family Controller 1 Gbps
Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz         0 bps
Realtek USB GbE Family Controller 1 Gbps

Re: 1/4 speed

@Huntleyroe A quick look at that log shows your LAN1 port is only connecting at 100Mbps, rather than the expected 1Gb, which possibly accounts for your low speeds, and you have a number of wireless devices dropping in and out on a regular basis very various reasons.

Unfortunately, I'm no network expert, but maybe @Dan_the_Van  or @Townman  may have some further thoughts?

Re: 1/4 speed

@Huntleyroe I can't see many WAN (Internet) disconnections , the last one was 3rd April when (apparently) the router was manually restarted.

As @jab1 says there's many wireless connect/disconnects. The 100Mb wired connection is likely a TV, they tend to only have 100Mb network ports. Also it connects/disconnects in the early hours which is typical of a TV waking up from standby to check for updates.

Re: 1/4 speed

Are the 'PC's' running wired or wireless, and what are they?

Re: 1/4 speed

With what wireless cards/adapters? Going a bit outside my area of knowledge/memory as it's a good 12/15 years since I used a desktop with a plug-in Wi-Fi adapter.

Re: 1/4 speed

@MisterW Any ideas - as I said, it is a long time since I used a Netgear plug-in adaptor.

Re: 1/4 speed

@Huntleyroe

Are you satisfied with the explanations given as to why you are not seeing your full package speed when using a WiFi connection? Basically the Hub Two does not support the faster speeds using a WiFi connection.

If you are looking for faster WiFi speeds (not to be confused with broadband connection speed) then you'd need to buy your own router. You would be looking for one which support WiFi 6 and/or 7. Bewarned only devices which support WiFi 6 and 7 would benefit, so now:

usb newfast u357 adaptor, 5400mbps wifi 6 - provided it is plugged into a PC with a USB3 port it will.

realtek 8822ce wireless lan 802.11ac pci-e nic - this inbuilt card is WiFi 5 only.

For the dropping connection issue, you could try setting the Wireless interface to prefer 5GHz band connections, it is not unknown for WiFi adapters to flip between 2.4 and 5 GHz bands where the signal strength difference between the two band is negligible.

Re: 1/4 speed

Thank you for everyone's help with this.
I understand that wifi will be slower but my speed tests showed lower than guaranteed speeds while wired, it showed ping was peaking too.

I will look at trying your suggestion with limiting the wifi to 5ghz and see if that makes any difference.
