Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

I'm currently on a pre-fibre package price thanks to the previous trial so I would have to "upgrade" (ie pay more) to be a part of this.  I'm considering doing this but I notice that the current FTTC packages offer 40/2 whereas I am on 40/10.  If I did the qualifying upgrade to a current fibre package would I lose my 10Mb/s upload speed?

@KevinG
I seem to be getting similar results to you - around 50Mbps down although my IP profile is 76Mbps. Let us know if the new router improves it I might have to ask for one  Smiley

I expect they have a bit of a backlog now, I just requested yesterday.

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

@leng: Same deal for me, I've been assured that I'll still get the 10Mbps upload if I revert to a 40Mbps package. However you do loose the beneficial pricing from the previous trial Sad

Oh dear. I just unlocked my modem (got a replacement last week so hadn't done it yet), which obviously meant powering it off for a short while, and my line rate is showing as 67737, which must be lower than it was as I had a profile of 72.89M and was getting speed test results of around 70M. I tried to check what my profile is now and am getting "The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider" again, which I got from the time they upgraded the BT speed tester to when I was put on to the 80/20 trial. Speedtest.net now coming in at around 40M and pings around 25ms, far worse than I was getting. Help! I don't think the new router is going to help at all.
Edit: managed to get the profile from http://windows.mouselike.org/be/?DoAction=BrasChecker
The current Downstream BRAS rate is: 65.57 Mbps (down from 72.89)
The current Upstream BRAS rate is: 20 Mbps

Right, now up with the new ZyXEL router. Still only just over 40M. Shall I give up on today and come back tomorrow???

I am sort of scared to connect the new router later seeing as its running so well at the moment.

As long as you leave the modem running it shouldn't affect your connection at all.

Thanks walker, connected the new router and up and running with same speeds as before Smiley

What I did notice is that speeds can be variable, and are now dependent on the machine running the test. For example: my old laptop (2006 vintage) can only sustain 65Mbps on speedtest.net

As the speeds get faster dunno what's on that laptop but WinXP in particular can benefit from the tuning of the TCP receive window.
You can tune stuff using the tweaktest and drtcp tools from here. http://www.dslreports.com/tools

Great, thanks, Dave.  Does everyone who applies get selected, or are you choosing particular people?

I just tried this to see if that will give me my profile (although I'm pretty sure its whats its always been) out of curiosity and that also failed just like the bt speed test  Huh
