Which speed is correct?

Good day. I have just changed from Fibre Unlimited to Unlimited Extra.

The service information is:

53-72 D/L

14-18 U/L

Current = 80Mbps

Using PN speed checker I get 35.1/9.3.

On BTW the numbers are 70.31/9.33

I have tried several other speed testers and they all echo PN figures.

So, which one's right and should I be concerned about any of them?

Also, I would like a bit more upload speed, just 'cos I expected it!

Thanks

Re: Which speed is correct?

@bertb  Welcome to the forums

have you tried a reset of your router? i.e. turned it off and back on again after a few minutes. It could be the router has not picked up the change. Otherwise it might be a stuck speed profile which happens sometimes.

Re: Which speed is correct?

I'll give it a try, thanks.

Oh that's another thing.

PN sent me a new router but it's another Hub One.

I assume Hub One works on both?

Re: Which speed is correct?

Back again.

No, still the same numbers, 35.3/9.2

That's on MyBroadbandSpeed.com

Weird.

Re: Which speed is correct?

Why not put your phone number in the DSL Checker https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

It will tell you what you should get and what you are getting?

Re: Which speed is correct?

@bertb  yes the Hub one works on both

How long did leave your router off for? Some people suggest 20 mins. bear in mind it can then take time for the system to notice the change.

Another option might be to connect the router to your test socket in your master BT socket. Details are on the Plusnet website in the support section, this will ensure its not any internal wiring.

otherwise log a fault call

Re: Which speed is correct?

Sorry for delays, doing our dinner at the same time!.

I don't understand what all these figures mean or which is important but here goes.

VDSL A= 80/58.6 DL - 20/16 UL

VDSL B= 78.7/53 D/L - 20/13.5 UL

MAX DL = 53.32 - 13.37 UL

15/6/20 which is before it changed over.

Re: Which speed is correct?

About 10 minutes.

Not got a master socket and regular fibre has been steady at 35/9 for about a year.

Re: Which speed is correct?

I don't know how these figures from the router help. I know what attenuation means but

not it's relevance to this discussion

5. DSL uptime: 3 days, 01:58:54
6. Data rate: 9997 / 39950
7. Maximum data rate: 13133 / 56048
8. Noise margin: 7.8 / 11.3
9. Line attenuation: 20.0 / 16.4
10. Signal attenuation: 19.7 / 16.4
11. Data sent/received: 947.9 MB / 7.4 GB

Re: Which speed is correct?

Something funny going on here. Just tried 3 other browsers.

Chrome, Firefox & Brave.

Using the BTW Performance test site, https://speedtest.btwholesale.com/details

they consistently return 34/9 down and up.

Only on Safari does BTW show 70+ download.

Re: Which speed is correct?

The data rate shows you are still on standard fibre, not Extra.

The DSL check data suggests your wiring is probably limiting you speeds, which should improve once you get a filtered master socket fitted.

Re: Which speed is correct?

OK Mustrum, thanks for that. I need to get on to PN.

I do have a long route from the incoming socket to the router but loathe to go all wireless!

Cheers for now

Re: Which speed is correct?

That would also explain why every browser but Safari returned standard

fibre speeds.

Re: Which speed is correct?

@bertb  No it doesn't explain the test using Safari. Your FTTC connection is still a 40/10 service so whatever test you did that that showed 70Mbps was either totally wrong or using someone else's FTTC connection, perhaps your Iphone/Ipad was connected to your neighbour's Wi-Fi .😁

The good news is, apart from the long cable to your router which could be a problem, you should get close to full 80/20 sync speeds when Plusnet get the upgrade done.
