Re: TP-Link C3200 won't connect

@laralou - Well I think you should simply replace the gateway value that was / is there with 192.168.1.1 save the config, then reboot the PC or re-start the NIC.

Re: TP-Link C3200 won't connect

Do I go to the lan pge first & do that like 'Spendlesstime' said or do I do it all on the dhcp page?

@laralou - Best to take @SpendLessTime's advice then configure as suggested.

Re: TP-Link C3200 won't connect

I'm not configuring anything until I know specifically what page to go to first what value to change etc. There is no point guessing what people want me to do. If you tell me I'll do it

But as it stands the post was vague do you want me to only go to the page he said

'On the TP-Link devices (c5 and C3200) the IP address for the router (LAN side) has to be set too.' & do what? Do I then go to the DHCP page?

I appreciate the help but I can't read minds here fellas.

Re: TP-Link C3200 won't connect

I'm sorry I can't help you with the specific page as referred to by @SpendLessTime, maybe he can post an update, but I was suggesting that you carry out his suggestion then change the settings on the DHCP Server page.

Having said that from his post I see "On the C3200, click the advanced tab and then it is on the tab Network -> Lan as LAN IPv4". Once you have done this the do the DHCP and reboot the router, it may do it automagically anyway. Then reboot your PC or disable then re-enable your network card on your PC.

Re: TP-Link C3200 won't connect

Hi

Been away shopping for tonight's tea which I'm preparing.

From the router page, click the "Advanced" Tab at the top of the page.

Then click on "Network" in the left column.

Then click on "Lan" in the same column.

Change the field called LAN IPv4 from  192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1   (assuming that was the value from the old working router)

Click on the "Save" button on the LAN tab.

Then click on the "DHCP Server"  in the left column which is 2  below the LAN button.

Look at the fields "IP Address Pool".

Has it change to be "192.168.1.100" to "192.168.1.200"?

It not, change it to those values.

Look at the field "Default Gateway"

Has it changed to be "192.168.1.1" ?

It not, change it to that value.

Click "Save" on the tab just below the field "secondary DNS"

Now click on the "Reboot" button on the far top right of the webpage.

Once the router is rebooted, restart your PC to get an IP address in the new IP range of "192.168.1.100" to "192.168.1.200" from the router.

When the PC is rebooted, log onto the router and check the status. If the status is  not connected, goto the Advanced tab, "system tools" and check the "system log" for messages.

Re: TP-Link C3200 won't connect

@laralou these are essentially the steps we went through earlier, but with different numbers. Hope it works though.

Another silly thing to confirm is that you are using the right username and password, so username is xyz@plusdsl.net where xyz is the username and password are the ones you use to login to the Plusnet portal

Again if this attempt also fails, plug your old router back in and can you send the PPP logs it creates when it connects, something is different at the PPP level and it is not obvious that changing the DHCP addressing will do anything to fix a PPP problem.

@godsell4 you've put a comma between plusdsl and net

Re: TP-Link C3200 won't connect

@Anonymous @godsell4

I've been looking at the log file that the OP posted in message number 58 in this file

And I have found this really old forum post from a Jelv1 at reply 26.

In both cases, the CHAP Challenge from Plusnet  has a gateway name which looks wrong and when the router sends the CHAP response, the gateway is rejecting it and replies with an LCP EchoRep.

In the case of Jelv1's problem, the router is able to renegotiate successfully the LCP stage and gets another CHAP Challenge  from Plusnet.

However, in the OP's case, the router and Plusnet can never agreed again during the LCP phase so it fails eventually.

The issue is the name Plusnet send in the CHAP Challenge stage (and some dodgy router code no doubt)

Thoughts please?

Re: TP-Link C3200 won't connect

@godsell4@SpendLessTime - Well we do not know as yet if the previous changes have worked, so getting that information from @laralou would be good.

Re: TP-Link C3200 won't connect

@laralou, @godsell4, @SpendLessTime - Am I missing something here? In the ...1-4.jpg log view the 3rd line from the end says that the PPPoE is connected! Is this not what we have been trying to achieve?

What are you doing to physically check the your PC in on the internet?  Remember on Windows there can be a bit of a delay before the network icon in the status bar at the bottom of the screen says that the Internet is available. Also you have have another device you can use to check availability?
