I have a git server running in a docker container. The container publishes port 2222 to the host interface. I have setup a port forward on the router from 5000->server:2222. When I try to run:
git clone ssh://git@<external_hostname>:5000/<repo>
I get connection refused.
If I try to connect from the docker host on port 2222 then it works.
This is odd as I already have various port forwards setup to the docker host, namely port 22, 80, 443 and the standard mail ports. These all work fine.

I also ran:
nc -v -z <external_hostname> 5000
and got connection refused too.
I've also tried using a port in the standard range (23 to be exact) and go the same problem.

So you already have identical rules set up for the other ports (22, 80 etc) and they are still working fine?
What about if you set up a standard port forward rule to forward 2222 to 2222 (just as a temporary test), does that work?

I'm afraid port forwarding isn't really something we'd be able to officially support setting up and I wouldn't know what to suggest at this point.
Hopefully another community member will be able to assist you with the troubles you're having setting this up.
