Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

@tommygunyeah, as long as your line's fairly stable, set a monitor up with the dynamic IP.

@eatyourteeth, the way I get around the lack of ICMP response on the Hub One is to put a Raspberry Pi in the DMZ and have that handle it. You might have more success putting a 'dumb' device in the DMZ like a PVR/set top box that responds to pings but it's unlikely to be susceptible to vulnerabilities.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

So just started a youtube video, the sound vanished then there was a loud screech and the video stopped. Its now acting like it is trying to buffer but, looks like it completely lost connection.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

As many other users mentioned, using a VPN kind of worked around the issue. Until today, using a VPN I had no loss (or sometimes 1-3%).

Unfortunately..... Over the past few hours, I have been having 1-15% loss even on VPN... Still way lower compared to what I had before using the VPN, but significant enough to make gaming unplayable.

Weeks are passing by and this is still unresolved, please do realise that we'll be forced to start looking elsewhere

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

I don't like getting my hopes up, but last night I didn't have any problems. I have no way to monitor packet loss but watching Twitch videos was fine with no buffering.

I am on the Southbank gateway with a 51.9x IP.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

My packet loss was less last night but still around 30%. it started later and finished slightly earlier than usual. Snapshot graph of last night below::

I too route through Southbank and have a 51.9.x.x IP.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

I've noticed issues with certain sites in the past week or two. I monitor my connection using f8lure (and l8nc before that) and this uses two sources to perform ping tests on my connection. The graphs I'm attaching are for the same time period (last night) and you can clearly see that only one of these sources has packet loss.

To me that shouts peering issue but I don't know if that has been discussed already as I haven't read the whole thread.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Oh the irony, bad service for a month and a price increase, internet unusable at times so I opted out and am set to migrate to a new provider, in anticipation I cancelled the direct debit in the thinking I would just pay one final bill. What happens? Well plusnet decide to keep interrupting the service. The ironic part? Well the interruption pages are no more annoying than the month of internet issues and page timeouts, if anything they load more quickly, it's like water off a ducks back now.

Of course the migration has taken a bit longer than expected, I had hoped it would fall at the end of the billing cycle but that's not the main point is it? The point is a contract goes both ways, plusnet provide a usable service and I pay. Not Plusnet passes the buck and I still pay.

Also what is with the new ticket system and why were my tickets closed with no updates at all? Honestly they have no detail in at all. Everything I provided on the fault since the network update is missing.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Seriously not fit for the purpose, streaming or gaming is out of the question with the return of the packet loss:

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Still getting packetloss every few seconds, though think broadband is not picking it up. One minute im running in a game the next its daja vu! Ive seen this before!

Im getting packet loss icons in game and from what i have seen its all from this new network pn have created. I had no issues before this ballsup. Now im having packet loss issues EVERY game, EVERY few seconds...

Might as well call plusnet crapnet because thats all i have.. crapnet!

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Still not doing me very proud either,  I'll be forced to migrate at this rate.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

@NiM my chart looks normal. However in bf4 they monitor packet loss and all im seeing is "severe packetloss" icon.

No doubt they will say its "not us" just like nothing is their fault. This new migration to the new server has done nothing but [-Censored-] customers off and they dont seem to bothered.

Forgot to add, ping of 30 upto 250! gg

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Thursday's change fixed the problem for me.  Until now.  www.google.co.uk, for example.

--- 216.58.208.163 ping statistics ---
120 packets transmitted, 114 received, 5% packet loss, time 23886ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 10.209/19.675/23.208/1.190 ms, ipg/ewma 200.723/19.530 ms

Frankly, I don't have any confidence at all that Plusnet have the slightest idea what the problem is and are just randomly pushing buttons in the hope that something might work.  Hopeless.
