It's not something we've forgotten about, and it's something we want done for sure. We will let you know as soon as there's anything to update you with, I'm very sorry to say that at present there isn't. I assure you though it will be happening.

Needless to say, we're all desperate and would like to update our sites to 5.0+ asap. I don't think I'd be alone in thinking that if yourself, Bob Pullen, Ben Brown and from our side Gabe, got together, that the update would probably only take a couple of days to achieve, any downtime if incurred, being something I for one could live with.
If PN could get this update on your 'important things to do list', I'm sure there's a bunch of us that would be very grateful
thanks

Surely forcing users to use old versions of MySQL from 2005 must be a security concern?

Come on PN. We are paying for a service; even if it's not one you offer to new customers what about us long serving loyal customers?
v5 is a requirement, not a nice-to-have.
G.

If how to go about it is the issue, I think a poll to CGI users would give lots of useful feedback on the preferred method.
I think the offer of free CGI webspace is brilliant and users appreciate the money spent by PN to implement and maintain it. Its one of the real hooks that draws people to PlusNet. Not having mysql5 can make the free CGI space useless for many users, rendering this investment a waste of money on PlusNet's part. In time, more and more users are going to reject the CGI space and look elsewhere (but then again, maybe this is not a bad thing for Plus Net and they plan to eventually bin it?). I'd just like to know either way.

Have the Plusnet users given up hope that this issue will ever be resolved?

I should have picked this up before. I might be a hook to draw people to Plusnet - if it was offered!
Residential does not include any hosting for new users.
On business the FAQs say:
Quote 7. What webspace allowance do I get?
Each of the Business Broadband options has a different amount of webspace allowance:
Product Webspace allowance Business Broadband Option 1 100MB Business Broadband Option 2 250MB Business Broadband Option 3 500MB
Our current business products do not offer CGI or MySQL services but if you have them on another product you can keep them if you switch to a Business Broadband option.
New customers wanting advanced hosting services: You should check the range of services offered by Pay As You Host.

Quote from: Bob
We got as far as debating how we'd handle the switchover last time round. The way we saw it there were a few alternatives.
Run two instances and rely on customers migrating their own data across
[other options snipped]
If anyone has any thoughts/opinions then feel free to voice them and I'll make sure they get seen if/when the work is picked up again...
My vote, if it counts for anything

It'd be nice if they actually just came out and admitted it.
