Why is youtube being blocked?

It's worked fine all day. Now youtube on the TV won't work. Nor will it work on my PC but it is fine on my phone and my VPS running windows 2016.

I ping youtube.com - 216.58.213.14, it times out. The website is dead and tells me i am not connected.

I setup a different DNS record on my PC for the IP address that my VPS resolves youtube.com to and then

I ping youtube.com - 216.58.213.14

Pinging 172.217.2.46 with 32 bytes of data:

The website is still dead.

All the other services (downdetector etc) say youtube is working fine. Like I said, my phone is still strangely able to access and play youtube videos too.

Whats going on? I can't ping their normal IP but can ping another but the website is dead on both of them. I've just factory reset the TV too after uninstalling and reinstalling the app failed to work.

Please can someone at plusnet tell me why youtube is being blocked? - Youtube itself works on my VPS - obviously the video has lag so thats not going to work but i am not blocked by youtube so I am blocked somewhere else - presumably plusnet / BT

youtube was last night using an android app and for me now on my laptop works

The IP Address 216.58.213.14 resolves to lhr25s25-in-f14.1e100.net for me and does not respond to ping where as 

ping 172.217.2.46 atl14s78-in-f14.1e100.net does respond

Well on my PC and then the TV it did eventually come back to life.. and now this afternoon it's gone again (even my phone this time).

@bobpullen can you shed any light on this please? This is not normal for youtube to vanish but still be pingable.

Website isn't working, app on phone isn't working, no doubt its dead on the tv again too.

Nothing immediate springs to mind and I'd expect a lot of noise if there were a widespread problem.

One shot in the dark is whether or not you're logged into a Google account at the time these problems are being experienced? Are you sure there's nothing account-specific that might be contributing to the problem? I notice that the first two octets of the problematic IP address (216.58.x.x) match the first two octets of Google's SafeSearch IP address 🤔

Nothing that i can think of @bobpullen, it's worked fine for ages and then just suddenly started playing up.

I even booted up the big PC (8 proccys @3GHz, 16gb ram) and that had no luck either.
