Who to contact about FTTP availability - Openreach or PLusNet

My PlusNet unlimited fibre contract is coming up for renewal, and I thought that I'd be able to upgrade to full fibre, but I don't have that option. The vast majority of the estate does, including the houses facing mine (even though the street cab is on my side of the street), and I've seen BT engineers digging the pavement directly facing, under the wall into the garden.

I've tried putting adjacent postcodes into the BT address checker, and FTTP is available in every one I've checked. Some are saying OH and some UG. Some are available, some are at stage 1.

Every address for my postcode (about 40 houses, some bungalows, some terraced) are showing FTTP not available, but FTTP on demand is available limited to 330Mbps.

A Google search suggested contacting my provider to enquire. I would have thought Openreach would have been the first point of contact, but looking on the website there seems to be no way of contacting them directly.

Would PlusNet be able to contact Openreach on my behalf?

@House-Martian

Have a look at www.openreach.co.uk - what does it say for your address?

@House-Martian   you can check if Openreach have plans to instal fibre for your property here https://www.openreach.com/

However even when it says it is available it can take several weeks before ISP's can offer it as work will still be needed at the exchange.

The cabinet you mentioned has nothing to do with FTTP, that comes direct from the exchange.

Hi Brian,

It say "Not yet available", which is what I expected. When I enter the surrounding postcodes, it says available.

Curious as to why it's not available for just my postcode.

@House-Martian

If you use this link https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/where-when-building-ultrafast-full-fibre-broadband

scroll to the bottom of the page, there you can add your post code and hopefully you'll see a clearer picture.

The close I live have had Full Fibre since mid April, properties just 300 metres away are currently in the build stage

@House-Martian just a point to note, FTTP doesn't go via the street cabinet on your side of the road. FTTP network is a totally new network connected by about 1000 buildings, most telephone exchanges as we know them will disappear, by about 2040
Was a member for years, but moved from PN fttc to fttp from an AltNet. Getting 940Mb up and down. Happy to stay on here and try to help others. 

@House-Martian

The result implies they are in build state for your location but, as stated, it's not yet available.

Fibre comes direct from a main Exchange. At the consumer end a single fibre optic cable can serve 32 properties (from memory). Depending on how the cable is being laid they may simply have got to your post code yet.

Re: Who to contact about FTTP availability - Openreach or PLusNet

@bmc

I get the feeling that they've done all they're going to do, for the time being. Up until around 12 months ago, I's see Openreach vans down by the exchange and around the village most weeks. The broadband checker says there working on our exchange, but I don't see any evidence. It seems that every postcode except mine is available, and it's been like that for a while.

I wonder if they've encountered a problem with our houses, and decided to suspend the work?

This is why I was asking who to contact to enquire about progress.

@House-Martian

OR are a law unto themselves. Generally they don't speak to consumers as they are not customers. An ISP might get a bit more information but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Have you registered an interest in Full Fibre?
