Re-enable an old domain

Many years ago I had a domain registered hps.org.uk . It was allowed to lapse. I would now like to be able to use it again. WHOIS shows is as active, Plusnet Plc t/a Madasafish Broadband as the registrar, however it does not resolve in DNS, so I suspect it is not actually in use but was never fully released. How can I go about getting hold of it again?

Re: Re-enable an old domain

It's something we'll be able to sort for you.

Do you happen to know the account credentials (username and password) where the domain is held?

If so, let me know your username (PM) and I'll create a ticket for you. I'll need the IPS tag of the new host.

EDIT: I've located the account and created ticket 255187563. If you could please log into the MAAF portal and reply with the IPS tag, I'll arrange the change for you.

Re: Re-enable an old domain

Thanks, that sounds great. Can we take this out of the forum? Could you email me directly on [Removed]? I would move the IPS to IONOS.
Mike

Re: Re-enable an old domain

For accountability and security, I just need you to confirm on the account. If you can log into the account www.madasafish.com and reply there, I can action.

Re: Re-enable an old domain

I have no idea what email address would have been used, I have never accessed MAAF portal. hps.org.uk was used by the then Hertsmere Progressive Synagogue, which changed its name in 2004 to The Liberal Synagogue Elstree and started using a new domain tlse.org.uk. We therefore allowed hps.org.uk to lapse.
We are about to change our name again, to hertfordshire progressive synagogue, hence our wish to re-establish hps.org.uk.  I took over the management of our web presence about 15 years ago, but was not the original contact for hps.org.uk.

I can get any authorisation you need from the board of trustees of the charity (of which I am one). How can we proceed?

Re: Re-enable an old domain

Under these circumstances, it's probably best to go directly to Nominet who can change the tag for you. There is an admin fee, which appears to be about £10.

Contact the owner of a domain registered with MADASAFISH

I want to get in touch with the current owner of a domain which is registered with MADASAFISH, which is a Plusnet (former) name, to enquire if they are interested in selling it. The domain is hps.org.uk; it does not appear to be active, but the registrant details are redacted at Nominet.  Who at Plusnet can I contact to ask for my interest to be forwarded?

If you're not the current owner, I'm afraid we can't help. All I can suggest is that you email it (mail@ or postmaster@) and hope they have email active.

@mike_23

We therefore allowed hps.org.uk to lapse.

When you say you allowed it to lapse, was it a free domain on the MAAF account ?

It looks like you changed hosting provider (certainly for email) when you changed domain. If the original was a free domain then I guess Plusnet may have been continually renewing the domain and its still attached to the original MAAF account. The nameservers & MX records are still pointing at Plusnet

edit: you could try using the Nominet reestablish identity process https://secure.nominet.org.uk/flows/reestablish-identity.html

Then if that works , you could get Nominet to transfer the domain

Re: Contact the owner of a domain registered with MADASAFISH

Thanks for the advice. I have contacted Nominet, however they will not re-establish identity unless I can tell them the name of the person that originally registered the domain. As this is 25 years ago I have not been able to find this out. That is why I would like Plusnet (madasafish) to forward an enquiry to the current owner to see if they would be open to an offer. Many registrars offer an automated service for this but Plusnet do not appear to do so.

@mike_23 is there no-one in the charity that remembers the MAAF account details ?

Re: Contact the owner of a domain registered with MADASAFISH

Unfortunately not. It is 25 years ago, the personnel have changed many times. I have contacted all the people I can think of that it might have been but with no luck.

Re: Contact the owner of a domain registered with MADASAFISH

In that case, I think it might be simpler looking for a new domain if you can find a suitable one available

from what I can see , hertsmere.org.uk is available , and hertsps is available as .uk & .org.uk , as is hertsmereps.
