Log on to your Plusnet Hub Two Manager, look in My devices and see what frequency your laptop is connecting at, 5GHz or 2.4GHz

Also, unless you have devices that need to connect at 2.4GHz, go to Plusnet Hub Two Manager, look in Wireless and use the Change settings tab to turn off the 2.4GHz - remember to click Save tab.

This is what I have done, so my PC always links to the router at 5GHz.

Nothing is simple is it.

Last night the 192.168.1.254 worked.

Now it says secure connection required.

Your Hub firmware has updated overnight and the later firmware enforces an https: connection.

so disabling the 2.4ghz is going to stop it connecting at all!

My guess (and its just a guess!) is that a driver update is needed. @greengrass have you ever updated the wifi driver since you got the laptop ? Check the HP site to see if an updated driver exists

Well, my TP-Link AC1300 USB Wi-FI dongle reports as 802.11n - it works on 2.4GHz and 5GHz. It's maker claims a max link speed of 867Mbps at 5GHz and I can confirm this is achievable!

One question I have, on the PN2 the blue light does not go all the way around the circle, it is at the top and bottom, is that normal?

OK. It can support 5GHz but, from your reported test speed the Wi-Fi link to your laptop is working on the slower 2.4GHz link.

(I hope that is reported against the listed laptop device - not just the router's Wi-Fi "Status" - both are on by default.)

Unfortunately, the Hub2 router used the same ID name for both Wi-Fi standards, so you can't use that to establish a hard connection to one or the other. As I said, unless you have devices that need a 2.4GHz link, I would turn that off in the router, leaving just the 5GHz Wi-Fi on. Works for me!

Just that when my friend with an older Android phone comes round I may need to temporarily turn the router's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi back on again. 😊

In my devices, I can see that the,

Televison is using 5ghz

Mobile 5ghz

Laptop 2.4ghz

I think it is best I do not try to change any settings in case I cannot connect at all.

I will use it for a couple of weeks and then maybe look into changing the settings in the router to keep 5ghz only.

That is strange, @greengrass . If the laptop has the Realtek RTL8821CE-M 802.11a/b/g/n/ac installed and up to date  drivers it too should be able to connect to the 5Ghz band.

@jab1 I'd agree with that, but a brief search does find a number of posts reporting no 5ghz connection with that wifi nic.

Just because it can operate at 5GHz doesn't mean it will - same as my Archer T3U adaptor when 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is on.
