How Long Does It Take?

Hi All,

The people at Openreach informed me that they are "building" in my area and hope to have full fibre available in June.

Over the last couple of months I have noticed Openreach popping up at various places doing work and at the end of last week they pulled fibre cables to the pit outside of my front door.

My questions is once the build process has been completed how long does it usually take for it to be offered as a service at PlusNet?

I appreciate this is a bit of a "How long is a piece of string" type question 😁

Thanks in advance.

All the best,

Derek

@DerekW

For me Openreach started installing the infrastructure around where I live mid December 2024, I went live 15 April 2025.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: How Long Does It Take?

@DerekW the best thing to do , is to check regularly with the BT wholesale checker https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome for your address.

You're looking for 'WBC FTTP' showing as available. As soon as it shows available , then you should be able to place an order through Plusnet.

Re: How Long Does It Take?

Hi @MisterW

I have been keeping an eye on that, no change yet.

Mind you I have known the information to be wrong in the past.

@DerekW

I should have mentioned mid December was when the work started, I did check using the link posted by @MisterW and found that Full Fibre was available, I placed the ordered 26 March.

@DerekW

What you need to keep an eye our for is the installation of the CBT in the underground chamber. See picture

You can see the blue draw ropes where the house ducts have been checked and provan clear. Once this is in look for them testing the circuit. In my case this was a van pulled up alongside with a connection running to a computer in the van.

I was lucky in that this was the last CBT in the circuit (they can be daisy chained) and the OR staff told me the circuit was good. They then pass this onto commisioning and FTTP should be available withing a couple of weeks.

Re: How Long Does It Take?

@DerekW its certainly not unknown as you say, but AFAIK the information used for the BTw checker and that Plusnet use to allow an order to be placed are derived from the same Openreach source. So until the checker says 'yes' , its almost certainly not possible for PN to place an order.

Re: How Long Does It Take?

Hi @bmc

They are installing those things in the pits outside my house as I type this.

Hopefully not to long now

Re: How Long Does It Take?

@DerekW

Camera out for a souvenir picture!! See if they install blue draw ropes after checking your house duct.

The next stage will be for them to test the circuit. They plug a computer into a port and let it do its thing. Once the circuit is passed as OK it goes to Commissioning which takes a couple of weeks.

Then the promised land should show up on the Checker.

Re: How Long Does It Take?

OK.. something strange is going on.

I spoke with the Openreach guy who was doing his checks a few days back and he said to keep checking as it would going live soon

My neighbours address, she lives across from me, is showing up on the PlusNet checker (and other checkers) as being able to get Full Fibre 900

Yet my address is showing just normal offerings, no full fibre.

What gives with this?

Can someone from the PlusNet team look into this for me please?
