Fixed IP address not responding

I have had a fixed ip address for over 1 year now and it has worked well.  I recently upgraded my phone to an iPhone15 and the w ifi response on the phone was abysmal.  I changed the wi fi channel on the router by pressing the automatic selection and although the wi fi is now better (not perfect) my fixed ip address is not accessible.    I host a web service on this address and it just keeps getting 'server fails to respond' or 'server times out' when trying to access.

Plusnet support have been useless, they don't know what the problem is, seem unable to diagnose anything and their solution is to send me a new hub, which I have now been waiting for for over 1 week (they messed up the order, but it still hasn't arrived).

By the way. my wife had a new iPhone 15 at the same time and her phone worked like a dream, even when I changed the channel).

Any thoughts on what the problem may be as access to my site has been down for 2 weeks now.

Re: Fixed IP address not responding

@bryanuk The problem is/was your phone, obviously, if your wife's identical one 'worked flawlessly'.

When you say your 'fixed IP address is not accessible' - exactly what do you mean? A new Hub is not going to solve such a problem.

Re: Fixed IP address not responding

When i run ping on the ip address it times out,

When I try to access the site via the internet, either from my PC or external to my network, the browser reports 'server

 took too long to respond'

Re: Fixed IP address not responding

Ah, so it is a problem with the server - nothing to do with the IP address, as such. Can you tell us what the site is - I can then see if I can access it, or a least see the actual error.

I am not on Plusnet, so it would be interesting to see if I can access it.

Re: Fixed IP address not responding

John,

I have checked all the settings on my Synology Disc station which hosts the site, and checked all of the port forwarding rules on the hub (non of which have changed recently).  I can access other info on the server where it is an app Synology apps) to server connection, so it looks to me as if the hub is not obeying the port forwarding rules.

The site is www.hcbridgeclub.co.uk

Re: Fixed IP address not responding

The site is unreachable - by me- although I get no error message, it just hangs. Are you using the Hub, or mobile data, to post?

Re: Fixed IP address not responding

When you try, does your browser translate the url to 31.125.40.93:90?

Re: Fixed IP address not responding

OK - so it is not a Hub problem at all, more access to that individual site. I am no networking expert, and the two people I could think of who may be able to help do not appear to be online at the moment, but I will tag them in case they do pop by.

@Dan_the_Van , @bobpullen  - any ideas, gents - way out of my pay grade. 😉

It links to 31.125.40.93, but not to 'hcbridgeclub', which suggests to me that something has gone wrong with the address translation.

As I say, this is not something I have experience in - the two people I have tagged have much more knowledge, so unless they, or someone else with the required knowledge/experience pick this up...

Re: Fixed IP address not responding

John,

Thanks for your help, however, before I selected the button on the hub manager to change the wi fi channel, access to the site was perfect, hence I am fairly convinced that it was this action which has caused the problem, as no other elements in the chain with access to the site have changed.

I hope i am wrong!

AS I say, Bryan, this is something  outside my knowledge. Hopefully, one of the more knowledgable Community members will pick this up and point you in the right direction.

Sorry I cannot be of any further help.

Re: Fixed IP address not responding

so you think it any be some error on the DNS server?  This is curious, as one of my site users, who has not been able to access the site, got an 'expert' friend of hers to have a look and he said that the ip address was not pointing to my server.

I didn't believe him, but now you are maybe indicating the same. I will wait for the 'experts' to give their opinion, but maybe Ishould change the DNS server look up?

Re: Fixed IP address not responding

I would wait for more authoritative help, as this happened - coincidently, I think from my limited knowledge - when you made a simple wi-fi channel change, then I suspect an external change. Making more changes could further muddy the waters.
