Hi,
Can I use a website hosted by Plus net for ecommerce? What are the downsides? Is it sufficiently secure? Plusnet have fll access to our sites as administrators so security might be a concern.
Any comments gratefully received.
Regards
Jimmy

I personally wouldn't recommend it as we don't offer SSL on our CGI platform, which is a basic requirement of anything involving financial transactions. I'd also not recommend any other shared platform. We do our best to keep the platform secure, but a shared platform like ours will never be as dedicated as a VPS or dedicated server.

Ben,
All transactions would be handled off site by Paypal. Therefore the security disadvantage would be that someone might be able to change a button. It seems that no other ISP offers the kind of security on its web pages as say a bank might where we assume that any one else accesssing my account would be easily traceable as well as quite difficult.
I would prefer to use just one ISP if at all possible.
Thanks
Jimmy

If you're really concerned about Plusnet staff accessing your site, you could run it off a home server while it's taking off and move on to co-location, or similar, when it becomes a roaring success.
