Hi
I've setup a second email account for my wife. I've been attempting to setup thunderbird on her windows account but even though I can login and retreive emails via the web entering the same username and password doesn't work in thunderbird. Has anybody else setup a second email account and used thunderbird that can offer advice?
Thanks
John

Have you setup the second account name in the format username+mailboxname
Example -username - smith
Email account - fred
Mail set up as smith+fred

yes. used same details as when I logon to check emails via web mail. Setup same as my own account but it just seems to refuse to recognise the username/password when attempting to check for mail.

Still having these issues? I can't see any problems with your mailboxes at all. Can you PM me with which mailbox you're having problems with? Please send me a private message

I am having the same problem with thunderbird.
Wifes laptop Linux Mint Mate 13 + thunderbird e-mail client
My laptop Linux Mint Mate 17.3 + thunderbird e-mail client
I have setup 2 e-mail accounts one for myself and one for my wife.
Both can be accessed via webmail but I can only get one Thunderbird e-mail client to work using my account.
When I try to setup the account the wife's laptop I get "login to server mail.plus.net failed.

I'd guess you've not set the security (or lack of it on Plusnet's mail servers) correctly.
Have you set Connection security to None and Authentication method to Password, transmitted insecurely?
Those are not the Thunderbird default settings and so have to be selected.

Hi All,
Result!!
Webmail for wife works ok >>
Webmail username = wifename@mailboxname + password works ok.
mail.plus.net POP server and SMTP relay require username and password.
Not the same as for Webmail above.
Also my account is the default account.
Thunderbird now working >>
Wifes username is myusername(default account)+wifename (keep the + sign) + password this then worked ok.
Thanks JELV for responding to my post I checked and did have the security configured correctly as I copied the configuration from my laptop which had a working instance of Thunderbird.
Thanks Oldjim the + sign in tur post was a clue and helped once I put the username the right way round!
