mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

Hi

In webmail I mistakenly deleted my emails in my inbox instead of the emails in my deleted items folder!

as a result they have disappeared from my laptop and phone. Any way they can be recovered at all?

All the other folders are as was..

Cheers

N

Re: mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

Oh dear … and the default settings on the webmail client is now different to what it used to be - it now empties the trash folder on exit.

You might be fortunate in asking and getting a special restoration but I would not bank on that.

@LexLex2020  / @Marsh  / @Windings  / @Tina11192  - any chance for this user please?

@plusnettony did anything come of the report to Greenby of the changed default settings please?

Re: mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

Hi All

Thanks for your speedy responses.

Please just hold on for a couple of hours as i think i am sorting at my end

Just before i went to bed i checked my inbox on my phone (Gmail/ android) Inbox still had the emails in so quickly put them all in the 'Bin' , thinking they might disappear any second. A total of 28.

This morning i am in the process of forwarding the important ones (about 12 or so) back to myself. This is happening successfully so will finish doing that by about 1000 this morning. Once they have been sent from my phone and received in my Inbox i am deleting them from my bin.

As an aside but important to me.....

Im not sure where i am with Greenby/ PlusNet re migration. I have never received any emails from either Greenby or Plusnet with regards any successful migration to Greenby. I believe we were to be informed by email by Greenby when our migration had happened, allowing us to the review and customise our settings?

I have just kept logging in to webmail as normal. I have noticed on odd occasions that odd things happen once in a while. Folders and subfolders appearing similar to the ones on my laptop in my email mailbox/account.

On my webmail it does have a box pop up that say the sort function has been turned off and not to bother letting you know?

I am a Globalnet email address user so not sure if global net users migration has been, or is different, to other webmail users?Huh

For me i will sort my current issue (self deletion of my email inbox emails) at my end and will continue to forward them from my bin to myself.

With regards migration to Greenby. it would be useful if you could perhaps signpost me to any useful links or information as to what is currently happening, or what has already actually happened to any migration to Greenby for me?

As i say i have had no emails informing it has happened.

Thanks for your help as always

regards

Neil

Re: mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

You could just move (or copy them) them from the bin to the inbox.

Re: mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

Hi
Thanks for that.

To be honest I don't really get on with gmail and its functionality.

Not sure if there is such a way of copying from one folder to the other.

I think if i did that they might appear in my inbox on my phone but not ness on my laptop or my webmail.

I think some settings on my phone/laptop and my webmail are a bit of a mixture of imap and pop3.

A nightmare i know and something i need to get a grip of!!

Throw in changing laptops Operating System to ms365 and all the grief that went with it and i have a perfect recipe for procrastination. 🙂

Im always thinking.......... once i get the email from Greenby.......that will be the catalyst/ opportunity to sort out imap/pop3 and all things email/webmail.

As you probably guessed i need to sit down with somone who knows how all this stuff works.

Thanks for your help.

Re: mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

With IMAP on multiple devices, what happens on one happens on them all when each syncs with the server.  To be truthful it’s odd that you’ve found them still on one device … unless that device is actually POP3.

Mixing POP3 and IMAP use to the same mailbox is usually very unwise, though here it seems to have saved your bacon.  In this scenario you are correct, moving the items as I suggested will not fix the issues. Nor will the move to Greenby - in principle that will be nearly transparent as far as settings go barring gremlins.  See the FAQ link below.

Re: mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

Hi Townman

 Thanks for your help.

All received and understood.

Will put some time to looking the FAQ this weekend. As part of that will also look some of my email settings on my ohone.

Also have a problem with my phone when sending emails? Ok from home when on this router (PlusNet) but wont send when I'm out and about.

I did rectify this sometime ago by tweaking a port number or some such function in outgoing settings. Trouble is when android or the email package has an update it tends to knock it out again.

May well be one and the same issue?

 Thanks agin,

N

Re: mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

No, that’s not a port number issue.

Unhelpfully the iPhone suggests that user name / password on the outbound server are optional.  They are when connected to Plusnet’s network.  The optionally st both ends is inappropriate.

Certainly at sometime in the next 3 months Plusnet services will require these - see the FAQ.  There is no good reason not to specify them.

Re: mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

Hi

Have had a brief look at the email migration FAQs via the button below as recommended.

I'm not so sure that the incoming and outgoing server settings in the table in the 'What other settings do i need' section, are the same on my laptop or my smart phone. The settings i currently use do appear to be working OK.

However I take on onboard that come migration and perhaps in the next few months?,  that the points in the 'What do i need to do' i.e. enabling authentication, using full email address instead of username and enabling SSL/TLS etc s etc. Will require me to make sure that these settings are as they are recommended in the table as mentioned in the paragraph above?

Am I correct in assuming that i will need to look at this at the time of migration and only after Greenby have been in touch, and that i don't need to be changing any settings before hand?

I did happen to look at the email diagnostics section below. However too technical for me but looked like the information contained therein would be more than useful to a techie type person whom if i get problems would understand the subject better than i would!.

Regards

 Neil

Re: mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

Are you referring to this...

Where can I get help troubleshooting any issues?

Our Plusnet Community is great place for any support, get help with our email server connectivity issues guide.

Gosh I am astounded to realise that my diagnostic tool has become quasi official!

If that is to what you are referring, you need to select the brand name and then click OK to see the settings, as in...

CANNOT ADD IMAGE!

You need to select the brand and click OK to see the correct server settings.

Re: mistakenly deleted my emails from my inbox in webmail.

Hi

Yes that's the one i think.

A good piece of work!

I'll remain as is at the moment in fear of getting too involved and pressing buttons i shouldn't.

I'll await further information and try and keep up to date on what's happening re migration.

thanks N
