Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

Thanks,
"As you've not migrated you'd log in as normal via ftp.plus.net (or settings on the member centre at portal.plus.net)."

Yes......  well..... I have another topic somewhere in here https://community.plus.net/t5/Everything-else/Webspace-full-site-locked/m-p/2028523#M39942   where i was referred to Greenby as my FTP doesn't have the permssion to do anything on the remote server. It was impossible to communicate with Greenby.

I had various at Plus Net scurrying around trying to find out which way was up with the webspace.
Nobody knew and the probelm still presists.

I have come to the conclusion that i am paying out for something that is totally borked.

If anybody's got a magic wand let me know. My contract runs out next Feb and I'll be off to Sky.
I'd be off NOW if it wouldn't cost me.

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

Thank you Tony, that's helpful.

One thing you didn't specifically address is "How will I even see Greenby's welcome email if it is sent to [email protected], when the nameservers are still pointing at Plusnet but the domain has transferred to Greenby hosting?  Surely this and all my other email will be lost until the nameserver is changed in Fasthosts to point to Greenby?"

Excuse my ignorance about how email works.  As far as I understand, after migration all my traffic will still be sent to Plusnet until I change the nameservers, where presumably it will be lost  - so how will I be able to receive an email from Greenby to tell me migration has happened?  Sorry if this is a stupid question, I would be delighted to be reassured that Plusnet will forward my traffic on to Greenby until such time as I change the nameservers.

Apologiws, I've been out of the office. We've worked it so their is a proxy in place meaning mail will continue.

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum.

I have been migrated to Greenby and can use webmail, but I prefer to use Thunderbird, which uses the servers mail.plus.net and relay.plus.net for incoming and outgoing emails respectively.

Outgoing email failed recently, and this morning incoming email failed. I have updated my Plusnet password and it was recognised correctly when I rang them this evening. Entering the new (or old) password fails to connect. There seem to be issues with certificates, as discussed elsewhere, and may or may not be relevant.

To complicate things further, I had a new router on Monday from EE for the Digital upgrade. Is it possible that I need to access the router to get Thunderbird going again?

Thanks

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

Sorry to see you're having issues.

Your settings will remain the same, but we've not yet moved relay.plus.net, so your password will be your old Plusnet one for now. The certificate issue is known, I've just posted an update elsewhere about that. Finally, the router doesn't need to be accessed to get Thunderbird to work again.

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

@jkg Anyone with any sense will disregard those port settings as they are ancient and insecure, and the suggestion to abandon SSL/TLS/Secure connections is, to put it politely, not very good advice at all.

So you are leaving Plusnet. Has your Plusnet account been closed already? If so, you will not now be able to access mail.plus.net - if you no longer have a Plusnet account. You may need to change to mail.enmail.co

The list of servers may be useful - I don't know - but the port settings should be ignored, as already mentioned by jab1.

@pvmb

So you are leaving Plusnet. Has your Plusnet account been closed already? If so, you will not now be able to access mail.plus.net -

you can still access mail.plus.net , that points to the proxy. It's relay.plus.net that can't be accessed
