Re: Unable to send emails

@shutter I've just tried, and sent successfully, so I suspect it is smething local to your setup. Presumably this is a new issue?

Re: Unable to send emails

@jab1  Well, I don`t really know how "new" it is, cos I rarely send messages from that email address, it only happened because I got a message from the forum moderators on that email address and when I used "reply to sender" I got that message pane.

Last time I sent a message on that address was "test message" to my gmail address, tocheck my internet connection on June 6 2022.

Re: Unable to send emails

So it could be any time between then and now. I know you have said you don't use webmail (don't blame you, TBH), but can you just try - if it fails on there, sounds like something has gone wrong somewhere - TB got its undies in a twist, or something got screwed at the PN end  . Don't really know, as it's something that's never happened to me, so not researched it.

Re: Unable to send emails

@jab1  on webmail login failed...

 I recently changed my password to login on the forum..... BUT.. even if I use my "old" password, it still reports "login failed"

Just as well I use Thunderbird ! .

Re: Unable to send emails

@shutter I have to admit, this sounds like a foul-up on the password front, but unfortunately, because my emails just 'work', I have to admit I don't quite know where to go next - this old brain is forgetting more the older it gets, and even if the answer is buried somewhere in the archives, I can't unlock them.

Maybe one of the SU's will pick this up and solve it for you. Sorry I have to admit defeat.

Re: Unable to send emails

@shutter your forum password has nothing to do with your account password. Sounds to me like you're using the wrong password especially as webmail login fails

Re: Unable to send emails

@MisterW  @shutter - missed that, but don't see why changing the forum password would suddenly affect the email one?Huh

Re: Unable to send emails

@MisterW  as @jab1  said.....

Also, if my password is wrong ( which it seems to be ! )  how come I am receving emails on plusnet email address.

2nd question, How do I change my email pasword, if I don`t remember the one I put in 15 years ago  ?

( or changed at any time during the last 15 years )  ?

I don`t remember changing my email password recently,  and it  ( plusnet email was used to send an email on July 6th 2022 )

Re: Unable to send emails

Are you using the main account login or a mailbox login to receive ?

Re: Unable to send emails

@shutter your password doesn't affect incoming mail - it is only required for outgoing, to prove to the system it is you

Re: Unable to send emails

@MisterW   don`t know.... as I said before... I don`t use webmail.  I use thunderbird,... and as far as I don`t remember any password changes apart from my pn user login password.

would it be something I need to check on the pn profile page for email settings ?

Re: Unable to send emails

@jab1 a correct username & password is required for incoming mail . However, often, the incoming mail is from a secondary mailbox and has the account+mailbox username format and the mailbox password which is different to the main account password. Usually the main account name & password are used for smtp authentication , although the mailbox format & password can be used

Re: Unable to send emails

Ok, @MisterW , understood, but I'm backing out of this - and any further involvement on the Help forum as from today. I only initially answered this as @shutter is a 'friend'.

@shutter earlier you said youd changed your forum password now you say it's the pn user password. Which one is it ?
