Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

@Buggwrit Please raise a ticket with Greenby - would help to increase pressure on them

Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

@mavison

To be honest the latest crop of problems with Greenby since our forced move to EE have been the last straw. We're now actively investigating a new email provider so I can't raise the enthusiasm to try to contact them, especially since they appear to almost exclusively use AI bots.

I'm also considering dumping EE for broadband and VOIP as I currently can't find any way to access my bills without recourse to their app, which I don't want and have no intention of installing. Apparently it is supposed to be possible to view them online but I haven't managed to find a way to do it so far.

After 19 years with Plusnet I shall be glad to be rid of the lot of them after all this 😠.

Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

I’m a very non IT technical person and, having read the comments on some of these forums regarding email issues post transfer to EE, am starting to get quite concerned!

We joined Plusnet over 20 years ago with broadband and email and later added Home phone and have always found these very reliable.

The recent email transfer to Greenby fortunately went quite smoothly with only a couple of very minor issues, easily resolved (even by me!).

Now, we’ve received an email advising that we’ll be transferred across to EE as we wish to keep our “landline” number.

No problem I thought until I starting reading in these forums about problems people were having post transfer with their Greenby emails as their old Plusnet accounts were closed.

What is this all about?

Is this likely to happen to us?  And how can we avoid/resolve any issues please?

We currently access our Greenby emails via a Macbook Air laptop (webmail) and iphone/ipad using the Apple Mail app. Will all of these be affected?

Can anyone offer me some advice please (in simple, not too technical terms, please?

Thank you

Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

@Fenview18 If you have as you say been transferred to Greenby for your email service and it is now working, the transfer to EE should have no detrimental effect. However, should you encounter issues, you can always request help on these forums.

Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

I was in a similar position to yourself a few weeks ago. I've now transferred from a copper connection with Plusnet to a part fibre connection with EE. Apart from an initial problem which was down to an Openreach error at the exchange, and nothing to do with Plusnet, Greenby or EE, every has gone smoothly. I was a Force9 customer initially, so have always used the Force9 server addresses. When we moved to Greenby, I had to change my mail id from username+mailbox to email address, but all worked seamlessly when transferring from Plusnet to EE. Hope this gives you some comfort.

Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

As reported earlier in this thread after changing my mail id to my full email address I appear to have resolved the issue of sending mail with help from this community, although I have lost all confidence in the service. I have decided to obtain email from another supplier and will continue with Greenby in parallel until all my email contacts have transitioned or until Greenby start charging, whichever is sooner.

I've also resolved the EE billing. It turns out this is a known problem for migrated ex-Plusnet customers and hasn't yet been fixed. However the very helpful "guide" at EE has arranged for me to receive my bills by post until it has been fixed.

I think there is only one real problem which is that if your outgoing (SMTP) email server is set to relay.plus.net then you will need to change it to a Greenby server in order to be able to send emails after your Plusnet account is closed. In my case, my SMTP server was already set to mail.enmail.co so I didn't have any glitch when my broadband service was switched away from Plusnet a few weeks ago.

There are secondary issues, such as whether sent emails are more or less likely to get rejected by the likes of gmail, icloud, hotmail etc when coming from a Greenby server rather than a Plusnet one.

Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

the weird thing is, @abitpedantic , I have had no problems sending from the PN servers since my email was transferred to Greenby, but my mail program already had authentication set, as I am quite often away from home, so set this many years ago.

Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

I'm using relay.force9.net with no issues. There was a problem with DKIM config with Greenby service, but Greenby seems to have resolved this. Hotmail and Outlook were bouncing my emails for a bit, but all seems fine now. Never had a problem yet with Gmail addresses

@jab1

the weird thing is, @abitpedantic , I have had no problems sending from the PN servers since my email was transferred to Greenby,

but you still have a Plusnet mail only account don't you ?  so your credentials are still valid for relay.plus.net

Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

Is this correct? I've not heard about a mail only account, or that it will expire. Can someone point me to the Plusnet info on this. (Slightly worried now that there is a gotcha coming up that I was unaware of.

Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

@SteveMJones My 'mail only' account is one which is no longer available. When I left PN in 2021, you could retain your mail component if you so wished, and arranged that. about 6 months after I left, the option was withdrawn.

the reason my mail only account with PN (via Greenby) ill expire is because I shall not be renewing it, given that I now have my own personal email domain - away from Greenby/PN.

Re: Unable to SEND emails since switch to EE

Ah, thanks for that. So I don't have one, and nothing will change until I want it to: other than the free period with Greenby.
