Strange Freenetname email re closure of account - Spam or not?

I've just received an email purporting to be from support-admin@freenetname.co.uk:

"freenetname.co.uk

Dear ***.*******

There has been too many login attempts on your email <redacted>@freenetname.co.uk,
We are about to block your account finally if you do not verify the ownership
Within 24 hours of receiving this mail.

Ignoring this message will cause your account to be closed.

Kindly Verify ***.****ns@freenetname.co.uk  Now!

Thanks.

freenetname.co.uk Support Team 2026"

As I've never heard of a support team for freenetname I'm immediately suspicious, and the source code is equally strange. Has anyone else had a message like this? Strongly suspect spam but equally don't wish to lose the account.

Looks very much like a scam spam given away by the note of urgency.

I concur - note also the language in the first sentence. HOWEVER, with all the other things going on around Greenspan and migration I can't be sure, so am also interested whether anyone else has received anything similar.

@Shackman205 It is another twist on the 'verify your account' spam going around at the moment, I think. If you still have the email, could you post the full header - obscuring any personal data - just to confirm my thoughts?

Stranger goings on.

Firstly I posted the header from the subject email as requested - but it seems to have disappeared. I will try again after this (I did, but I was told I didn't have the requisite privileges).

Also the email is 'stuck' as the first email in my Thunderbird inbox - all subsequent ones are appearing underneath it. Although time of receipt was 0938, it is actually showing as 1738 (giveaway local time of sending perhaps - 8 hours ahead covers most of South-East Asia and China).

Re: Strange Freenetname email re closure of account - Spam or not?

@Shackman205  The link is definitely a phishing attempt, I suspect posting the header info will have been trapped by the forum spam filter so may or may not be released. I wouldn't try and send it again.

@RealAleMadrid  - Thanks but a bit too late - tried again but it has disappeared yet . I won't try sending it again and will now delete the offending item.

Re: Strange Freenetname email re closure of account - Spam or not?

I have had a few emails regarding my plus email with varying messages, the last one was as follows:-

Your e-Mail account will be deactivated and disconnected from sending or receiving
mails Within the next 3days because you failed to resolve errors on your mailbox.

It is concerning for two reasons, the moving of email address to another platform and how are they getting all the email addresses to send to?

I am fairly sure it is spam but there is still the question of how our email addresses are suddenly getting into the hands of spammers.

Anybody got an answer?

Re: Strange Freenetname email re closure of account - Spam or not?

I was equally 'fairly' sure my message was spam, but the fact it was to my specific email account was worrying. It doesn't help that we have Greenspan on the horizon.

However, as you can see my account has not been closed or interfered with, so I am reasonably happy.
